I will be hosting a guided discussion about respect in chat.

The discussion will begin on Sunday 19 June at 19:00 UTC

All ranks are welcome! I'm expecting to be about an hour but it depends on where the discussion goes.

Transcript will be posted to this thread once the discussion is over.

I can't help it, my immediate thought was "preaching to the converted"... I'm not sure how to identify and reach the optimal target audience...

I shall not be able to attend, but will read - with interest - the transcript when posted...

Two reasons I'm doing this. Knowing a thing by instinct, and understanding a thing are two different realms The understanding and practice of respect vary from person to person even here. Just because someone decides to 'don on the robes' of a Jedi doesn't make them automatically perfect Everything I'll be talking about will be applicable both in and out of the Temple. This is targeted for anyone who wants a better understanding of respect and the role it plays.

And the second reason is I've been wanting to run a guided discussion but I don't have a lot of experience teaching. I have, however, been through several classes on respect so I thought that'd be a great way to get my feet wet It's an important subject to know well.

Looking forward to it. I think it's a great idea.

I remain baffled by the concept of requiring respect.

I grew up with the saying "courtesy is given, respect is earned"....

In a civil society, courtesy is the grease for the wheels, however respect is just a reactive emotion within an individual as to whether they admire the actions of another...

Language is inherently democratic, so perhaps my definitions need to change to match with the current vogue...

Anyhow, I'll await the transcript and learn what I've missed...
