Thats a relatively common misconception. Its not recognized as often because the symptoms tend to present a little differently. There tends to be less hyperactivity, but more vagueness, inability to concentrate, issues with precise subjects like maths and basically being mentally on another planet

I think it a defination/diagnosis/overlapping issue in the school districts in my area and not something to debate but little girls sitting quietly are not thought to have "problems", agreed.
I have to go for a few hrs and will check on the thread later. Good discussion.

I read a paper not too long ago offering a theory that girls are able to manage the hyperactivity within certain settings, like a classroom for example due to a heightened awareness of appropriate social behavior. Not convinced, but it is an interesting thought. Though girls are more likely to have accompanying issues like depression or anxiety which may account for the apparent lack of hyperactivity.
Basically, I think that girls internalize a lot of the issues, rather than express them the way boys do. I find it really interesting

I was put in a harness and dog chain attached a post screwed into the ground in a fenced in back yard. I busted the chain and harness, climbed the fence and ran away. I was pre five.

No, I don't have stories of being chained. But I have plenty of physical punishment when my parents were at their wits ends and encounters with psychiatrists that should be locked up, never mind banned from practicing.
But my own stories.... well, the ones I remember anyway. I set the convent on fire once (total accident I swear), spray painted the bathrooms black (not an accident at all), locked the guidance counselor out of her own office and escaped through the window (also not accidental), drove my geography teacher to a breakdown (unintended consequence) got detention more times than I can count for a variety of sins ranging from fidgeting to disruption to not doing homework. Threw moldy sandwiches into the office of one of the teachers (he had it coming I assure you) and my personal favorite, starting a mass dissent in the school ranks of girls refusing to go to mass until our religious instruction teacher recanted on her assertion that dogs don't have souls and therefore don't go to heaven.
I was also the instigator of a thieve and swap, which consisted of swapping the contents of everyone desks and book bags between classes. The chaos was extremely entertaining. And I have a vague recollection of fishing in the goldfish pond with a tennis racket, and the condom flag
I was much quieter at home. Content to be left alone with books, paper and paint.

Oh, I used to literally climb people. Like trees. That may sound fine for a 3 year old.
But, I did that till I was 9 or 10. lol.
For the most part, I got into performing really young. With all my energies pointed at theater and dance, I never needed any other outlet for my energy. My parents handled it well. lol. I was in tap classes, ballet, jazz, etc. Kept me fit till I was in high school and stopped caring about it.
