Hahha. Fabulous, Brenna.

I guess, for me, I basically feel like I'm "high" 24/7. I live my life kind of in a cloud of non-lucid thought. My therapists think it's actually due to a combination of intense clinical depression compounded with ADHD. So, we think that CBT and meds are going to increase my lucidity and my ability to make decisions. In some severe patients, making simple long-term decisions is impossible. Oy!

You must have frequent episodes of lucidity though. None of your journal entries, responses in the forum or the sermons etc you've written are gibberish. They are normally very eloquent.

The "high", is that some kind of mania from the ADHD then? Its not something thats generally associated with clinical depression or ASPD.

Really? To be honest, I can't tell. That's a good thing that I seem to make sense at least some of the time. I guess there are varying degrees of lucidity.

I didn't use meditation on regular basis until now, when I'm adapting to life, dealing with stress and coming off prozac, triphtazine and carbomazepine.

I decided to start small - found totjo's founder reference to this: 8m meditation

Only started practicing yesterday - 8m before going to bed - but I guess it helped me, for once I hadn't been awake in the middle of the night.

Well, I'm not taking the pills to be "normal". People keep using that comparison, but that's not what I want to do

That's what the people think when the recommend them, normal.

My goal is to give my brain the ability to make decisions for the long term

I question if that is just an ADD issue alone. I can make: rapid, many, frequent decisions and change them often. It's sticking to one that is the most important for the long term that's my challenge. :) Every dam day!

I know all about nutrition, routines and patterns and stuff. I just can't put them into effect. Knowledge is never the problem with people with ADHD.

Exactly! Our brains work fine. They just don't work like everyone elses. You can't compare how your brain works to everyones elses. Do people born with no legs expect to run? No of course not. They live their lives the best they can with what they have. You have a gift. Learn to use it.

clinical depression

meds can help with that

I was depressed until I found I how I work. Now I focus on how my style of thinking works best for me.

By The Way If that intellectual in the video is ADDHD and has walked in my shoes I would think he was so full of intellectual crap.

It tough. Keep working on it. Get in touch with yourself and trust your intuition tell you what is right. Find what works for you. Counselors and meds can assist but a smart guy like yourself can figure this out for yourself given time.

Good luck. Keep us posted. Best thoughts.

[quote="Brenna" post=173119 accepting that my focus is going to be scattered are key for me in managing it.

for the most part these days, I dont even think about it. I dont allow it to be an obstacle, I just work with it.[/quote]

Were you hyper as a child? ADDHD doesn't occure as much in women.

That's their problem, then, I think.

That's what I'm talking about... You're describing exactly what I want to be able to do. But, there is no such thing as making "one decision" and sticking to it. The brain doesn't work that way. It makes hundreds of thousands of small decisions in one direction that can give the illusion of making one large decision, which is what I was talking about. I want to be able to make a lot of decisions in the same direction without losing course.

Do people born with no legs expect to run? No of course not.

No, they get artificial legs if they can afford it, and they do run... This guy is sketchy, but he helps me make my point.

Question, is this discussion centering around ADHD, or ADD? There is a significant difference, yet I am reading both discussed as if there is little to no separation, perhaps it is my lacking of understanding, (that's quite possible) but that's how it appears to me anyways.

I am only discussing ADHD. Ricky told me he has ADHD too, so I assume that's what he means even when he spells it differently.

ADHD, or ADD

They are related, clear cut definitions are varry and characteristics over lap. To "lable" one or the other is only necessary for the medical community and insurance companies.

there is no such thing as making "one decision" and sticking to it

Yes there is and that is a big part of our challenge. Learning to cope with that and use it to advantage is our key to success. I write things down and when my mind wanders, I then have something to refocus me. If I can remember where I set them down. When you get off track get back on.

Focus and concentration is tough for us. Forcing concentration is exausting. You have to give your mind a break, for me several times a day, to relax and wander around in my mind. It's the best time to work on creative things as our minds are good at that, some would call that muse, and of course write down your best thoughts before they get lost in the cahos of your mind. You can't keep a dog locked up, you've got to let them run.

From cahos come creative genius. You think quicker than most. You have vision. Find answeres and form conclussions quicker than most. Sometimes instantaneously. You have to wait while others take their time understand what you already know. It makes you impatient when you really have to learn to be confident. Your a hunter not a gatherer. You have gifts others don't have. Discover how to use your gifts. March to your own drum.

It's not easy.

It can be fun.
