So i know how much you all enjoyed my last Essay topic (don't know if i should be sarcastic about it or not).
But here is my Newest one. I have to write a persuasive essay on if the Drinking age should be dropped From 21 to 18 using two articles that were given to me. I believe it really doesn't matter what age. so Discuss in 1.....
2......

When i finish my essay in a week or so it will again be posted in my Journal Forum.
Enjoy!

I am sure those in other countries will chime in, but drinking ages vary from place to place...

AS Sid said, it really doesnt matter... People will do as they please...

I think they (lawmakers) are just trying to protect us from ourselves... lol...

Seat belts, helmet laws, speed limits...

Really, if moderation in all matters was observed, then most laws would be redundant...

Unfortunately, "it only takes a few bad apples", lol...

On walk-about...

The only thing about a legal drinking age, is that is causes a taboo on drinking. I feel that there should be no drinking age at all, so as to get rid of the taboo. Obviously removing the drinking age is implausible now though, because the taboo already exists, so lowering to eighteen would, in my opinion, be a help to society.

if youre old enough to slap the money on the bar, youre old enough to get the drink. will this lead to a bunch of drunken seven year olds? sure, but this is part of how they learn.

In my opinion, the real problem isn’t that there is a drinking age at all. It is that we are not taught to be responsible for our actions. We are not taught moderation. And we don’t feel that consequences should have any bearing on us.

So the desire of the people that have “the power” is to exert that power by attempting to control us for our benefit and to ease the burden of responsibility.

And I think all of this is in part because spirituality has left the home. So many seem to feel that they are liable to no one and they can do whatever they want. When in fact we are liable to everyone and every action has a reaction whether we realize it or not.

So, in short, what Jestor said….

I'm not 21 and I still drink a few with my buds after a stressful week. I agree with Jestor that it's all about moderation. Personally, I don't think government needs to be in the business of telling me what I'm allowed to ingest. The flip-side to this is if you're in a position to do harm while under the influence, (aka driving). Under these circumstances government has every right to put a foot down.

If you can be drafted into the Army at age 18, vote at age 18, then why do you have to be 21 to drink?

I think it should be. But also parents should be allowed to give their own children alcohol in their own house if they choose. For a lot of kids, the only time they drink is either when they move away for the first time or when they're hiding it from their parents. How can you learn moderation if it isn't something normalized? Some people will be fine, but most people will drink in excess when they get a chance because they aren't allowed to just drink casually, even in their own homes.
