Re: "Please don't allow this post to turn into a PS4 vs. Xbox One battle. I would love to know more about the PS4 announcements made at E3 if anyone wants to start another thread."
Maybe you'd be willing to share your thoughts on the PS4 in another thread, Connor? I watched the presentation this evening and am not sold on it, but have mixed feelings about both consoles.

Not a battle, a complete and utter annihilation.
But, I didn't mean for it to be a battle post. Just that I think the Xbox is a horrid system.
Let me rephrase it:
I think the Xbox is ruining itself by limiting its game shareability, its poor choice of enhancing the features (that have produced public scare), and quite honestly.... by trying to be Innovative.
I will give the Xbox this: it is putting itself out on a limb. And, it may fly if it hits all the right marks. But, other systems (I won't name names) are sticking with old formulas and improving on them. Not to say it's better. But, it's what the people want.

I just wanted to share my enthusiasm for the Xbox One, but should have assumed that anything I posted would veer in this direction.
I didn't comment on the PS4 initially because very little information had been released about it when I made the original post.
I'm not an Xbox or PlayStation fanboy, though as I mentioned to you in a PM, I'm leaning toward Xbox One because the types of games available on the system appeal to me. I'm a huge Remedy fan (the company behind Quantum Break), a Swery65 fan (the creator of D4), and I love the Dead Rising series (all exclusive titles on the Xbox One).
To be honest, I'm not thrilled about the used game issue, but I almost never buy second-hand games. As far as the privacy issue goes, they've made it clear that without explicitly allowing personal content to leave your Xbox One, you won't be sending any information to the internet (or spy agencies).

You're not going to "realistically" find a safe haven on the internet to talk about the Xbox one. I bet, even on Microsoft's gaming forums, they are in tears about how shoddy their show was.
And, it's not about the information you put out there. They can talk all they want about how the Xbox won't ruin your life. But, the media controls everything. And, they say:
1. You're giving your children away to the spies.
2. You're never going to be able to share your game.
OBVIOUSLY, we both know those aren't true statements. But, once the media finds an outlet, the Xbox has reached a low point. And, the hype will die down and it will retrieve it's ranks as long as it doesn't screw up. The truth will eventually prevail.
Until then, don't be expecting too many lovers. It's how our society works.

I didn't find their show shoddy. I do disagree with some of the decisions they made about the console, but now understand why they made those decisions. I was pretty upset at first, but after some research recognize (and even appreciate) the reasoning behind them.
I also understand what you're saying about the media. Typically, I like to go directly to the source to find reliable information, but didn't do so immediately in the case of Xbox One - and wish I had. There's a lot of misunderstanding bouncing around.
My feeling is that arguing Xbox vs. PlayStation vs. Nintendo, Mac OS vs. Windows vs. Linux, dog vs. cat vs. hedgehog - is generally a waste of time because it often comes down to what appeals to each individual's needs, wants, and intuitive or aesthetic inclinations.
I'm guessing that both systems will do quite well.

I don't mean to contribute to the inevitable consoles war that's about to appear here, so I'll hide my joke as a spoiler after I've listed a few..."supporting evidence".

Guess nobody's waiting for the Nintendo conference?
PS4 will surely win, it's not only the ability to play used games, but also better procesing power and, well, not-looking-a-VCRness.

I missed the Nintendo presentation this morning, unfortunately. Will no doubt watch it on YouTube later.
Xbox One looks brilliant to me, despite bad press. PS4 looks great as well. I think we're lucky to be able to choose from 2 (perhaps 3) fantastic next generation consoles this time around.
I've been worn down by the 'which system is better' debate (due to passionate friends offline), so am respectfully bowing out of the conversation at this point.

Got your PMs. No worries at all.
It's not a debate on which is better, it's valuing each system for their worth.
In my view, the XB1 is worthless. Of course, that's my perspective seeing as I don't like anything Xbox makes exclusively.
I also skip generations of PS machines. I got PS2 and soon I'll get PS4.
I do the same with iPhones. haha.
Of course, the only systems I don't skip? Nintendo. But, that's because I like to keep up with the latest pokemon and zelda games.
:D

Over the last week, I've learned a lot about Xbox One and thought I'd share what I think are relevant facts about the system.
I genuinely felt that this information might be of benefit to people who are interested in Xbox One. This is not meant as a response to anything that was posted previously, and I am not attempting to reignite a debate about it's worth in comparison to other consoles.
Highlights of Xbox One (in my opinion) are:
- An awesome gaming system with great exclusives.
- A new way to interact with your television (with improvements to come).
- Voice activation and control for games and TV.
- Kinect 2.0 notices the tiniest movements (and can even measure heartbeat).
- Automatic login based on your voice and/or your physical features or movements.
- A single Xbox Live account can now be shared across families.
- Personal privacy can be set as high or low as you wish.
- Connected in low-power mode at all times (no more waiting for updates).
- Console can be turned off and Kinect can be shut down (if you wish).
- Online check instead of disc check (the end of discs?).
- Games can be purchased the day of release online.
- The Cloud will allow games to be much larger in scope and run more smoothly.
- Game data will stream from and to the Cloud to improve gameplay and graphics.
- All save games are stored in the Cloud and can be retrieved from any console.
- 300,000 new online servers to support regular use of the Cloud.
- Use Skype to talk with friends while playing games or watching movies/TV.
- Do multiple things at once (watch TV, play games, browse the web, play music, etc.).
- Use Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Internet Explorer, and more.
- Access to Blu-ray player and TV is never locked and doesn't require login.
- You can log-in from any other Xbox One and play/download your entire library.
- Controllers have been streamlined to better suit the average person's grip.
- Pause games at any time and return to the exact state that you left them in.
- Games will be installed to the harddrive, but can be played as they're installing.
- Games can be shared between family members and friends (more info to come).
- Game environments will continue changing, even when you are away.
- Your friends can interact with your game worlds while you are offline.
- Exclusive live-action television shows (with excellent production values).
- SmartGlass allows your mobile phone or tablet to interact with Xbox One.
- No ads on the Xbox One home screen.
- Compatible with universal remotes.
- Great developers on-board for Xbox One exclusives, including Remedy (Alan Wake, Max Payne, Quantum Break), Swery65 (Deadly Premonition, D4), and Capcom (Dead Rising 3).
- Xbox One has acquired the rights to many significant game series that Sony previously had exclusive rights to, including the Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, and Final Fantasy series.
- Other amazing titles like The Witcher 3, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Assassin's Creed IV, Elder Scrolls Online, The Evil Within, and Destiny will be available on Xbox One.
- Believe it or not, DRM (digital rights management) in this case is a good thing. The 24 hour online check will allow Microsoft and other software companies to offer games for lower prices than they would have been able to otherwise. It's the same model that's been used on Steam and other popular PC online gaming sites for many years (except that Xbox One saves you the trouble of logging in).
