I want a system that can be self verified as true, via some form of practice. In the case of my own religion a very unique and very specific form of meditation and training.
I don't think we should base our beliefs on faith, we should instead base our beliefs on our own direct observations.
I call this experiential spirituality, meaning you believe only what you yourself experience first hand in your practice and training.
First and foremost I consider myself a freethinker.

A sense of fellowship/brotherhood.
A way of perceiving and understanding the world.
A set of guidelines on how to interact with that world.
But most of all, a way of learning to find peace.

Adaptability. Things change, people change. We are constantly learning and discovering new things. A religion should grow and develop with the society it's in. It should realize that no two people are the same so not everyone needs to live by the same rules. I understand there are some things along those lines that cannot be avoided, but just because one person has a strawberry allergy doesn't mean all members shouldn't be allowed to eat them.
Something that encourages question and isn't afraid to admit they don't have all the answers all the time. Admit fault where there is fault.
Oh hey.. Here I am!

Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet
Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.

This is a tough one, because my instinct is to say nothing, after all religion is not spirituality. But I am here, so obviously I do want something!
What I do miss though is the beauty of the rituals. Every now and then I sneak into mass or go to watch the full moon celebrations of a local wiccan community, and I love attending Diwali. I think what I enjoy about religion is the celebrations of faith.

Why sneak in to a ritual? There is nothing that I know of at TOTJO that sates you aren’t supposed to participate or attend religious services, rites, rituals or enjoy aspects of other or any religion.
I have found that the only thing that changes is how one perceives what they witness.
