How do Jedi cope with severe pain?

Deep breathing.

I breath into the pain. i fill myself and the area with breath. As I connect my breath to the pain - I start to breath it out which helps me reduce it.

I went for months without sleep. I found the drugs just "knocked me out" but i awoke feeling groggy and dull. I do not feel that the sleep drugs really help. then I did pain meds to sleep. I had to wait up every two hours to take the next round of drugs in order to "continue sleeping" or else I would be awoken to the most horrifically intense pain as it "returned" intensely because the drugs completely wore off in three ours. So on the drugs I was awaking every two hours.

at first, without the drugs, I literally just watched the seconds go by. the seconds became minutes and then hours. If I was able to do something with that time - I would have gotten a lot done. I would just lay in as still of a position as possible until my partner awoke so I could have her for a distraction - talking and such.

Then I remembered my deep breathing meditation. Once I got connected to the pain like Ryujin wrote - I could start to settle my body down long enough to sleep naturally. I could get at least three natural hours of sleep this way.

Unless I missed it, nobody here suggest the most obvious: physical therapy. At least in northern CA you can get treatment something like eight or nine months out of every year completely free with just the most basic State insurance. And it helps incredibly with severe chronic pain. A good PT will do absolute wonders helping you work with your pain.

Playing an instrument daily can really help - especially one which requires a certain degree of muscular coordination. I suggest guitar or ukulele. A trained and licensed massage therapist could also offer some help.

Meditation is great. Medical marijuana might help take some of the edge off, if you qualify under your State's laws. Yoga and tai-chi are awesome, but they are impossible for some people to do. Qi Gong is really the best choice for someone in excessive chronic pain, as it's extremely relaxed and focuses on breathing control above all else (and anyone with chronic pain knows that sometimes getting your breath under control is the hardest thing to do when it all comes crashing down on you).

As there's also a powerful mental component to chronic pain, I suggest searching around for a good psychologist who focuses in 'talk therapy' s you have someone to let everything out to who isn't a friend or family member, it's so surprising how much having that sort of stress released just by talking helps you focus on just trying to explore and deal with the pain.

We are all the sum of our tears. Too little and the ground is not fertile, and nothing can grow there. Too much, the best of us is washed away. -- J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5

I don't really remember how I did it, or rather if any of it did anything effective. I'm not keen on bringing it back to explore either sorry

I tried lots of meditation but my intensity was pretty high and it was spiritually um, suffocating is the wrong word, just way too 'loud' - like consciousness was a flag flapping on a flagpole of pain.... best I could do was 'become' it, and not let it be negative but rather be positive. The flagpole is not stopping the flag from flying (separate), but rather keeping it aloft (together)... to take the metaphor beyond its usefulness LOL.

I actually think its the best use of 'dark' paths, as internal alchemy rather then external magic but for me this still fits within the overall light path because its only a facet (internal), and in fact needed the light path to be integral for the dark path to manifest more acutely. Basically I ended up using pain as a power source for driving mental visualization and improving spiritual experiences clarity to whatever goal you have for spirituality. I think it did help eventually when I really got into it, to the extent it's something I might try again deliberatly
:S

As mentioned I've sort of gotten away from that by sorting out the causes and taking much smaller and targeted dietary, lifestyle, herbal and a little bit of pharmaceutical assistance to nudge myself and stay away from causing it. The circumstances were different so I cannot help in that regard, best of luck in finding a solution!!!

One of my biggest issues with deep breathing, is that even if I go slowly, I always somehow manage to end up with symptoms of hyperventilation. I also am in talk therapy as well, and that is helpful. :)

how are you doing the deep breathing?....it should be a long slow breath in through your nose and a long slow breath out through your mouth....focus on the breath and the heartbeat.....

this method also works wonders to bring your heartrate and breath rate down after running....

Have you ever thought of medical marijuana ? I think it's legal in mississipi. it could help to calm down and let go, in addition with meditation and other methods
I want to clarify that I don't mean to be an apologist for smoking

I'm not aware of its legal status here, but I'll look into that. I'm asthmatic anyway so it would most likely use a vaporizer.

Yoga, it does wonders. I've also read individuals with Fibro having positive results from a daily practice...

A few tips for you. There's a handy book called the Permanent Pain Cure by Mimg Chew. I have a pdf copy if you want to check it out. It's a series of fascia stretches and other tips for things like fibro. He gives specific supplements and doses to help.

Second is to try getting your bars run or other body processes. It's from a modality called access consciousness and is incredibly powerful. It is my goto. You can learn more about it at accessconsciousness.com or my website jackie-meyer.com
Third I struggled with iron supplements until I found blood builder by megafoods. It is entirely plant based so easy on the body. :-)

Constant pain sucks. My wife deals with it as well. Using body processes on her really helps. She also meditates a lot. Hope this helps.
