Mixed signals… there are things we do in our jobs that may not be our favorite but we do them because it is a part of our job. That does not mean we have to like it or support it. I am happy that she is speaking out against “unrealistic expectations.”

Ah, but she does support it by doing it. Liking it or not is irrelevant. Speaking against it is all well and good, but its going to get confusing for people when she tries to communicate such a message.

As I said, she really doesnt have to put up with an ugly or fat stigma regardless.

Actors play roles, in many cases they have had to gain weight as much as lose it for roles. Ther job is deception to entertain, bodily, as well as with voice and expression, which im completely comfortable with, as I love movies.

She speaks against it, but also does in fact support it, with every air brushed picture she takes, or movie she makes.

Words and actions, which is more effective?

Saying your just " doing your job." Well, that excuse has been used to justify an awful lot in the world.

Certainly she could pick different roles, and yes, she may make less money, but indeed, is it better to live your beliefs? Or just spout them?

I’m not sure as to which part you are referring to as an extreme example though?

Pointing out "airbrushed models" etc. There is a bit of a larger scale there between healthy and not when it comes to weight. Certainly, I wouldnt say one has to be an airbrushed model, but those are in fact extreme, and as mentioned unrealistic examples.

I could post up many, many pictures of 300 + people to counter that argument, but it would only be using the extreme other end.

You can tell someone they need to lose weight, without using an extreme example of hollywood actresses and models as the counter balance to make that point.

I also think people do in fact need to hear uncomfortable information about there lifestyles from time to time.

A real friend, or person who cares about you wont choose your "feeling good about yourself" over what you need to hear.

I don’t know. If there were a role I really wanted to play and they wanted a particular type cast for it I would still try to get that role because I wanted to play that role. Not because I agreed with the type they wanted cast.

I can see how one might assume I support something just because I have to go along with the ones that make the decisions. Sure, I can fight the system and do my own thing. But what are the chances I will get to do what I want?

Rather than fight the system every step of the way, I might go along with what I had to do to get what I wanted and work to alter the way it was. That seems the more reasonable and logical approach if I wanted to make change.

There are people that say McDonald’s food is bad for you and they won’t eat there because of it. And all the people that eat there look at them like they’re crazy and continue eating the junky food. McDonalds doesn’t really care about losing a handful of customers if the majority is chowing down and they make their profit. But…. If I eat there and say that I want a better food, there is a much greater chance of many people agreeing and the menu getting improved.

As to airbrushed models… not only is it my opinion that they tend to cause unrealistic expectations but it is an opinion shared by some of the people that create the pictures and many trainers.

Here is a video of the Photoshop effect. I found it very interesting.

It's important to also emphasize that overeating is also not a good thing and people should not be ok with being overweight in the same sense that you shouldn't be ok with people doing hard drugs or smoking cigarettes. Even if the person really likes doing it, it's harmful and should be avoided.

Everything in moderation.

You know what? I'm overweight. I know I'm overweight. I know I need to lose weight and I certainly don't need anyone to tell me I need to lose weight. I think it's the same for anyone who is overweight. Having the obvious pointed out to you is not helpful at all... thanks! :)

I'm proud of it. Yes, I'm fat. All the politically correct people who buy their kids apples at McDonalds can get out of my way. I'm fat. I clog up toilets, destroy buffets, and I'm also an alcoholic. Seriously, if you watch movies or TV, ALL fat people seem to do is eat, crap, and fart, but that's not true: we simply excel at these things (one of the reasons why there is not a TV in my home). I AM FAT. I AM HAPPY WITH MYSELF. MY SOON-TO-BE WIFE IS A HOT GEORGIAN WHO IS IN PERFECT SHAPE. I'm fat and I landed her, as well as the hot Finnish girl I knocked up to create my daughter. I am a proud fat man. No way I'm fitting in some liberal hybrid car. I HAVE to drive a truck. I like Molly Hatchet and I steal macaroons from Golden Corral (using the pockets in my cargo shorts).

So you apply what works for you for others?

Also, knowing something is hardly as impressive as doing something about it.

A drug addict can admit as much, but can they give it up?

So you justify being overweight by the things you have and the truck you drive? What about being alive long enough to see them reach adulthood? Do you think you can deny the effect being unhealthy can have on your lifespan and body?

*shrugs* your loss, and im sure your lifestyle will be encouraged here. So much for self imrpovement.

I said I know I'm overweight... not that I'm proud of it. And I'm not overweight because of overeating and junk food consumption. Just because someone is overweight does not mean it's because they eat too much junk. There are other reasons people become overweight. There are diseases and medications that will cause people to gain weight. So don't make assumptions.

Is self-improvement a higher ideal than accepting oneself as-is?

I will admit that I am a bit overweight, but I choose to do something about it. I have made it a goal to lose weight and return to a more healthy lifestyle. That does not give me, or anyone else, the right to demean individuals who choose to do otherwise. To do so would create an expectation that he or she would have to conform to my ideals.

So Star Forge doesn't want to change. If he is happy with that, so be it. What right do I have to expect anything aside from him being himself?

The first night I spent in Australia, my (now) husband wanted to pick up some McDonald's on the way home from the airport. I kinda wrinkled my face and was doing the whole "ewww nasty" thing. My dad has even nicknamed it Dogmeat McDonalds. He talked me into it, though, and the minute we pulled up to the drive-thru my mouth was watering. It smelled like food... actual real food. So I got a quarter pounder and some fries. The meat was real 100% beef. It tasted absolutely wonderful. Like something I would make at home. The fries were actual potato... like cut potato fried in oil and not that potato powder paste stuff formed into something that looks like a potato. It tastes like real food.

The quality of the food certainly does make a difference. It's still not the healthiest food in the world. You wouldn't want to eat it every day, but at least when you do, you know you're getting real food instead of the crap they've started serving in the US.
