I mean, technically, if you're trying to appeal to a governmental body, or a council, or something, those might be construed as invocations, but typically we call them appeals in English, because "invoke" is a verb we relegate solely to the metaphysical--spirits, deities, energy fields, concepts, and luck being the most common culprits.
"Secular" tends to suggest that you are dealing with none of those things, and thereby makes the whole shootin' match kind of dissonant in an oxymoronic way, yeah?

Probably the best they could come up with, lol...
You could call it a 'toast' I suppose...
But that is usually for parties...

"Secular Invocation" what whose all or just the buddy's that are there ???? no religion in schools , or government : )
government are to keep the lights on and the roads working. that's how we do it here, in the uk and i like it : )
and even Tony Blair, UK prime minister "bush's little chiwawa " never mentioned "god" at work or "evil" in its biblical sense.
And he was a devoted fanatic every Sunday without fail.
i do love any message of peace, but please, bureaucrats just rubber stamp the thing and sign it dont sand around waffling mubo jumbo all day its costing us a fortune, hahahah : ) and we have all seen secular violence from missed placed words in public offices. On a lighter note if the Queen gives a secular Jedi invocation, can you delete this for me giggle : )

We have it DRILLED into hour heads over here...

And, the christian religions wont let go of the word God in everything...
You know our money has it on there too, right?
So, God became intregal, then some decided it was not right... Ive been on both sides of this at various points in my life...
Yet, we also claim a separation needs to be maintained between church and state...
lol, quite the conundrum...

The term "benediction" works here. While it still carries the stink of religious connotations, it is linguistically accurate in these circumstances in ways that "invocation" is not.
This implies a universal belief that it exists. Which, given the state of the world, is highly questionable.Akkarin wrote: Yes steamboat you are being a stickler. Why can one not invoke the good nature of the human spirit?

Lol, both words have a plethora of meanings and both of them have meanings that can be used completely secularly.
