Deforestation Tech

NPR posted this article to their Facebook which highlights this video:



And the only reaction I had while watching was this:



I realize that these machines have very practical uses that aren't entirely detrimental the Earth as a whole, but honestly... That's just disturbing seeing how much destruction it can do to our trees. Thoughts on this and the topic of deforestation in general?

That hurts just watching it...

Not cutting them down and using them for something else... just flat out destroying things because it's "in your way."

I'm just not going to say anymore...

I actually thought that machine and how it does what it does was pretty cool to watch.

Do you get upset every time you cut your grass?

Seriously though, I grew up in suburban neighborhood and mowed the grass weekly and no, it doesn't bother me because it doesn't kill the grass in the same way that trimming off a branch that threatens to fall on your house doesn't kill the tree. This machine is designed to destroy trees in seconds.

What a wasteful species we are.

Yes, it is neat how we can creatively think up new and ever efficient ways to destroy stuff... totally awesome.
And I agree with Jamie Stick on this one. But if I could get away with it, I would never mow anyways. Not because I'm lazy but because there are few things prettier than a field of tall grass and wildflowers that sway as the wind blows.


That is the kind of thing I grew up looking at everyday. Why would I want to trade that for this?


I just don't see the appeal.

My little carpenter's heart is breaking right now. Do you know how many pretty things I could've made from that tree so it could continue to be important and loved?

Something so quick to destroy a tree makes me wonder if all the animals living there have time to evacuate. With power comes responsibility!!

Im sure not all the time, but more than you might think, just given the noise it makes, etc, they are probably gone long before it gets there in most cases.

I would love to try out one of these things...after some training, as I dont think it would be safe before. :lol:
