Religious people are sheep...
I was transferring seminary stuff and kept seeing posts by MArk, and since we don't have a clear definition of the "Pastor" job here, I thought I'd look into how other organizations use this word... Here's what I found on wikipedia about pastor:
Present-day usage of the word is rooted in the Bible. The Hebrew Bible (or Old Testament) uses the Hebrew word רעה (roʿeh). It is mentioned 173 times and describes the feeding of sheep, as in Genesis 29:7, or the spiritual feeding of human beings, as in Jeremiah 3:15, "Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding"
So. They are treated like sheep, and prove they are in fact sheep by allowing themselves to be treated as such despite the clear warning they will be?
Seriously though, I always thought "pastors" were indeed shepherds, but that the connection to religion was that because they traveled a lot, they were responsible for the spread of religion, not that they actually (supposedly) were shepherds of human spirituality....

Some need is shown to them.
The only way to become immortal is to learn the ways to become immortal from somebody who already knows...
As long as pastors have knowledge to give, they are useful.
I think, though, that if I learned the truth of reality (which I think I've got a good handle on, meaning I have no clue, meaning I'm enlightened, meaning I'm in the dark, etc.) then I would move on.
of course, organizations that "have" pastors usually have some key reason to stay.

Soooo... as long as you cannot get that on your own...
Now, what about TOTJO?
We have no such promises... We have no such goal... Why, then, do we have pastors?
I think it comes to this: People identify with this path. And, we have people who have been walking it for a long time. People who know the way. Our pastors and higher ups can provide assistance on this road called life.
I don't think, in this case, our membership are sheep.

However I must point out at totjo we only have one pastor, who is responsible for "the spiritual welfare of the congregation"... Then there are priests.

There is a stone mural of Jesus standing amongst sheep, with one around his neck....
It used to really bother me in the way that "you are all sheep (weak minded) and must believe as well tell you"..
Now, as an adult, I see he was protecting that needed protection....
I'll get you a pic tomorrow when I pick up my boy...
It is very pretty....

I might have been Christian if I had someone explain things to me, instead of forcing thingscat me, telling me tojust trust because they didn't know how to answer my questions....

I don't remember where I heard this sentence, but...
Well, if you look for meaning of every word, they reach to some strange places. I could say pastors for people, are like shepherds for sheep.
They have to take care of them, give them knowledge,...
One of the reasons that we have many religion today is that, every prophet talked to his people with their language, and gave them knowledge as much as they could get. Muslims are told not to eat pig, because god don't like them(well, not this way but something like this) today's research show that pig isn't good for mankind...
I'm sure every single teaching in every religion, has a point, but it's up to its followers to go and look for deep meaning of it...
Again I believe a pastor should give his followers hints, to find deep meaning of each lessons in religion. Notice that they should give hints, not answers.

With the exception of Israel, the countries with the highest pork consumption are also the countries with highest life expectancy... in my country, The people living in villages usually eat quite a lot of pork, and they enjoy the highest life expectancy...

So basically what it says is when not consumed properly, pork can have adverse effects on health. But is this not true about all foods? Considering pigs eat our garbage ( for example, crops which can't be used for human consumption, or actual food waste), saying they are bad for mankind is a bit over the top.
