don't put yourself down by saying you're making assumptions!
Asumptions are wrong and you're not asuming so you're right... about the brains!

Perhaps its because the brains is made of many pieces. Left and Right sides? Frontal lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe, and temporal lobe? Let's not forget the Medulla Oblongata (my favorite since The Waterboy : P:silly: ). Kinda like the Large and Small intestines? Besides it's usually only zombies eating brains and their not too concerned about grammer

But you've got to admit that, if you had a piece of brian in front of you; it's unlikely that you would know which part it was (depending on how sliced and diced it was.) and you would still refer to it as BrainS. unless of course you know who the Brain(S?) belonged too. then you would say "there's a piece of his/her Brain (singular) on the table. And depending on who it belonged too you wouldn't pick iit up and put it in a jar for food.
Also. are you sujesting that we shouldn't be concerned with grammer in the same way as zombies?

I think it may be more of a grammatical error that has been accepted into common language due to advertising. 'Brain' is singular and 'Brains' is plural, that is correct English. But when you have products describing a singular item as if it's multiple, people read it and take it as being correct, but in fact it is actually poor grammar. That jar of pickled pigs brains, should read 'pickled pig brain' if there is actually only one in the jar that is.
Poor grammar in advertising is one of the main causes of the English language becoming bastardised.
