i have recently read this moral "slow and steady wins the race". how is this posible, if you walk a 100 meter race your going to lose. if you run as if a creeper was behind you then you will win. but if you look at it as if it were a race to finnish this extreamly hard puzzle then maybe it is true. but the story in which this moral is told through doesn't make that clear. im answering my own question. ok. but do still reply or add morals:)

This moral isn't literally about a race. It's a metaphor for life. Rather than rushing through life and acting as though life is a race, either to a finish line or to have the most 'toys' by the end, then you've missed the point of life. By enjoying life and taking the time to truly live it, that is what 'wins' in the end.

I agree however that this metaphor is absolutely inappropriate. If life is equivalent to a race than calm and slow motion is everything but a means to success. Maybe a race is not what life should be metaphorized through.

I dont really agree with that "moral". Sometimes slow but steady wins the race, sometimes fast speed on a bumpy road does. Also life shouldn't be likened to a race. A race to what? a comfortable death bed in a hospital? i'll take the bumpy ride anytime. Living long and safe seems so boring to me. Long live rallying!

Let's put this in its original context.

Aesop

The Tortoise and the Hare

The Hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. "I have never yet been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge any one here to race with me."

The Tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge."

"That is a good joke," said the Hare; "I could dance round you all the way."

"Keep your boasting till you've won," answered the Tortoise. "Shall we race?"

So a course was fixed and a start was made. The Hare darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the Tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The Tortoise plodded on and plodded on, and when the Hare awoke from his nap, he saw the Tortoise just near the winning-post and could not run up in time to save the race.

Then the Tortoise said: "Slow but steady progress wins the race."

THIS!

A book I'm reading right now in my Apprentice studies touches on it near the first parts of the book.

We're so interested in being comfortable and secure and forgetting how to live and be alive in the process. We've forgotten about the experience of LIVING and just want to settle and be comfortable until the end.

Big Up!

The expression slow and steady wins the race is not really about a race, it is about accomplishment. If we hurry through our tasks we will inevidable forget something or take a shortcut just to finish. The end product is truly less than what we desired and we are never really fulfilled by the task. A slow and steady pace will alow you to think through the task as you are progressing towards the finish of the task. The end result is what you truly wanted.

A metaphor for life...Slow down, take life at a steady pace, accomplish you life goals the way you want them, and follow your true path to the Force!

Well if I may be permitted to take the original quote perhaps somewhat out of context...

You could argue that it is a lesson about enjoying the journey and not focussing so much on the destination...

Being slow and steady can be more beneficial than being hasty and over confident.
