Gender vs. Sex: Nothing is Black & White

As has been pointed out, the forum is barely used...

So that forum is in no danger of detracting from any of the others....

To quote comedian August Butcher... He was discussing the smoking ban in bars...

"You don't go to a bar to get healthy... So if smoking is going on in a bar, and you dont like it, don't go in there... I don't like what goes on at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, do you know what? I don't go in there..."

That's how I would look at that forum....

If it brings in one shy, timid, unassertive woman, empowers one lady to sign up and join, then I think its worth it... After all, it is virtual, and its not like we are reserving a wing, or room at the Temple specifically for that purpose...

The same argument can be said for gay, or trans, or midgets little people....

But numbers wise, women would be a minority of substantial size... Because it crosses all of these and more, female little people, female in a male body, and on, and on....

On walk-about...

Sith ain't Evil...
Jedi ain't Saints....

An excellent point, I concede. I admit a certain desire in my own life for efficiency, for things to make sense and be effective in whatever they're designed to do. Sure, one shy woman might sign up because of it, and that's wonderful, but I should hope their primary motivation lies not in their sexuality, but in their desire to train as a Jedi.

Oh, and not to be picky ;P but as an asthmatic, I can't say I'd be so nonchalant about smoking in public buildings. Just saying. XP

Ace, you make excellent points, and I too hope that it is there desire to be a good Jedi that gets them in here...

At least reading stuff... lol...

+++++++
As far ad the smoking, as an ex-bartender, it was a stupid decision...

In bars... Not restaurants...

People don't go to the bars to get healthy... When they passed the laws, the hundreds in my town, and thousands across Illinois, of bars had to close....

Because for (just a guess) the two smokers to feel comfortable killing their livers, they chased out 30 people killing their livers and lungs... Stupid, political public pressure....

Back on point....lol...

On walk-about...

Jedi ain't Saints....

Being a Jedi is what got me into the Temple and although I haven't used it, the fact that there is a Ladies Forum is not a bad thing.I however have no intention of discussing breasts or periods. Women (in whatever form) have a different perspective on things, a female perspective, which does not detract from thier Jedi perspective, I would hope but it is different. I have "talked" to other members about many things, not knowing if they were male or female..doesnt matter we go on famously (in my opinion,I may be wrong) I don't know what subject I might wish a female perspective on but nice to know there is a place I can do it if I feel the guys are playing to rough! LOL Is there anyone monitering to make sure the guys aren't checking up on the ladies and thier lady stuff...kidding of course. The internet does not show tone of voice... which there was sarcastic humour!

I agree completely, it is not a bad thing. But I still question its purpose: as a ladies forum, it excludes all other genders. If it is to remain, it ought to embrace the genders of all Jedi and explore gender in its entirety. Like the other Special Interest Groups, there ought to be an option for everyone and be an area for learning about gender, just like the Sithism forum studies the Dark side and the Faith forums study various religions beyond Jediism.

As it stands, however, if it is indeed primarily discussion about vital female organs, then it is a health forum and therefore belongs in the already-existing health forum. And considering how little it's used, it would not be difficult to make such a transition. Even a special thread in the health forum would retain its initial women-only intentions without eradicating the subject entirely.

I agree. The Ladies Forum should be preserved, but as a part of a sub-forum devoted to studying gender and sexuality (not health, not Kamasutra stuff, just our internal sexuality).

Very well said.

From what i've learned in sacred geometry most people have a hard time view gender for what it really is. I'll tell ya that it hardly has anything to do with the "sex" of a creature. I once argued that this forum should not exist. Now I believe that it should be available always. My mind has been changed. I mean why not have it? o.O

I argued against this topic because i didn't see the whole picture. We used to view this as split between man and women. It was viewed as a duality of twoness and not as it is a duality of oneness. Isn't it true that both men and women take different paths but can some how end up at the same point in life, be it success or anything else.

Our different problems should bring us together more than spread us apart.
