So...there would be a text book of sorts. Now how would this work with the various learning abilities, or could it be customized depending on a person's learning ability? So not to insult one's intelligences or lose those who don't understand.

We have to keep things simple. There would be levels or subjects one leading onto the next like a ladder. Each level will contain lessons or questions one leading to the next. The students will have to answer these with necessary research and confront a group of Masters with their answers. The questions will be the same for all, and each student answers to his/her best. Of course the students can work on a question in reference to an assigned Master before presenting the answer.

Things are already beginning to sound over complicated and messy.

Also, not everyone has a webcam, I dont keep mine set up and dont especially want too or even feel/see the need for a simple vote. Its very easy to setup a point a click vote system whereby every voter gets one vote and who voted what can be recorded.

The point on 'grammar' and 'spelling' I foresee problem there... ie people who's 1st or eve 2nd language is not English.

priority right now tho is the content of curriculum, any voting system or whatever is secondary. I also feel the initial idea I put forward of 'pre-master(s)' is more workable than voting, this master would/could themselves decide who has completed the assignment(s) adequately to allow the student into the next stage.

I also feel there is quite alot that needs to be covered as a core curriculum as many things seem to be misinterpreted/,misunderstood at present, and setting time frames for the start of this is folly, a rushed job is never a good job, so I feel this should be a case of its ready when its ready.

First I find it is necessary to work on a system ( what we are) so we can see what resources we have. We have to consider our on line situation, fluctuating membership and limited resources. What use is it to plan a University type education plan if we say have 5 teachers or teachers who are sporadically on line? What will you do if you have a class of say 5 students: and the teacher leaves or 3 of the students dissappear or someone takes time out... . I don`t understand what is so complicated with the suggested plan. Please explain. Yes the idea is a new one but the suggested structure is a tested plan one which is working. But I don`t want to hold anything up. The ball is in your court Br. Rich. I will contribute in any way I can. But remember time is running on. I just hope you will not wate your time setting up a curriculum and not being able to practise it. What is folly is also a matter of perspective. Time is always an issue. A good system is one which should be able to be developed and added to. What stands in our way of starting on a small basis and making adjustments according to needs and possibilities?

All this 'voting' stuff is too much fuss

As for students leaving, well, thats their problem, i personally would rather 1 dedicated student than 5 half hearted ' gimme a cert n im off' types.

The curriculum needs to set a standard (as we all know) where the full time master of an apprentice can be sure the student has already covered 'the basics' to a satisfactory level and that they are also likely to stick to the tuition and not bail out when it gets a little tough, therefore, we dont want the course to be too easy, if you like sort the gold from the grit, basically we actually want to get rid of people who are not going to finish what they start and flush out those (as i called em before) 'gimme a cert n run' types and this also applies to clergy (or those who would be clergy upon knighthood) to stop tax dodging 'clergy cert n im off types'

The point I am trying to make is that a syllabus must be of a good standard for the foreseeable future and in such a manner that both a new member knows what to expect and also that ANY knight and or Master who takes on the role of group master is able to pick up the syllabus and teach without fuss.

I feel a good time frame for this course (ie training period before getting an individual master) should be 2-3 months, with the individual training taking around a further 4-6months.

As for the ball being in my court, this could not e further from the truth, peoples opinions were asked for, I simply and continue too, give mine.

The goal in my mind is for a standardised course for newcomers that any knight or master can pick up and even take over mid way (if necessary) from another. The point about students dropping out is a non issue. If say 4 of 5 drop out the fine, if all 5 leave then simply start a new 'class'.

I am not saying making it too difficult, but if its too easy then we wont benefit as a temple and most importantly the individual wont benefit at all. There will always be exceptional students (either in a good or bad way) but this is where a group of Knights/Masters (Teaching Committee?) could decide what to do... if necessary, an individual could 'jump the queue' or get '1 to 1' tuition all the way.

The library in my mind is simply a repository of ALL (or at least pretty much all) the information any student will need during their training.

Actually both Br. John's idea and Master Jon's outline would be a great combination. This ciriculum is not easy but not so hard that a 10 year old couldn't do the work if they put themselves to the tasks.

As for deciding when the student is ready to be apprenticed to a Master having an all out voting by everyone would take way too much time and a vid conf would be extremely delicate situation due to different time zones. So we have to finish the ciriculum and then set up this decisional factor and implimate.

Sounds easy saying it now we just have to do it.

AH! >. again I've failed to keep up with the topic and i have no idea were to start!

ok the way i see it is that it should be simple enough so that one Knight can do it.

Id say meditation and such should be left to the masters the creed basic knowledge of the the force web navigation should be the main part and the rest can be a Q and A part.Johns right it has to be run day by day We can use the shout as a class bell or if it has to be delayed.

Given some time i can come up with a lesson plan for an every day class.Umm...there would be one more problem. Who teaches and when? I could do at least 3 days a week only week days, not ends.

I also think that we're making this more complicated than it should be and we should just try it while fixing it as we go along. You know get some thing done? o.O

what about for the night owls- maybe a daytime class and a nighttime class?
and this brings another question are we doing this in forum or chat?
maybe both?
maybe the actual course material for independant study in forum, and the actual instruction in chat?
i like the textbook concept as well. that lends to creativity but continuity.

oh so it will be threads. groovy. then what about a group of instructors as opposed to just one like all the masters replay and \"grade\" as they can? or maybe that's been mentioned. or maybe even better one master per lesson?
then the burdon isn't on just one master. so like example lesson one is on (blank) and master (blank) is in charge of that lesson. then lesson two is master (other blank), so on.
kind of like an assembly line with a personal touch. the master of the lesson can answer and make sure the student understands via pm or in the thread.

or maybe we have the logistics worked out and i missed them?
