Fighting off the fogs of The Force

Hello forgive me if I am using the temple as a place to rant my frustrations out on nothing personal. I don't often talk like this but, man, I begin to wonder if I am suffering from depression. More and more I find myself in life just slipping into an awkward place I've never known. I grow tired when moments ago I was fun of energy, the things I once enjoyed are boring and uninteresting, I eat (which I like to do it's a comfort to me) it doesn't even faze me.

I feel like I am in a fog, lethargic, nothing matters I just wanna sleep and forget my problems, myself...everything and just sleep...

Does anyone suffer from this...I only get this way once in awhile it does happen often once in a blue moon if you will. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I am not a doctor of any kind*, but those do sound a lot like the symptoms I got when I first started fighting my depression. Perhaps you should have a conversation with your doctor about these kinds of feelings, and whether or not they are normal.

Yes. I've been diagnosed, for the same symptoms, with a few different things by different doctors. It depends on who you see and which DSM they're working with...
Medications for this kind of thing (antidepressants in general) have varied reports on effectiveness. Some people say that it's extremely helpful and that they can't get by without them. I don't exactly support using antidepressants as a "necessary crutch" but I do think they can be helpful for short amounts of time, long enough to be helpful at least. From my experience the standard treatment options for depression, bipolar disorder, and other such mood disorders aren't extremely long-lasting and are more useful as supplements to personal work on those things than as cures. Some studies have suggested that the medications aren't much more than a placebo effect, but those are at odds with other studies that claim the opposite. It's all very up in the air, as far as the science goes.
Sometimes saying things out loud to someone else can be extremely helpful, even if it does sometimes feel silly or irrational. Talk therapy is a viable option, but like the medications it can only supplement or point the way for work that you, yourself do to overcome the issue.

If it's just something that pops up once in a while and doesn't bother you in daily life -- I'm sure you've tried this, but you might want to dedicate some more time to meditating on why you feel this way, and in what ways it is helpful (and harmful). Depression doesn't have to be a strictly bad thing, even if it apparently harmful, as it can help with self-understanding by giving a direction to look towards. With that being said I know it can be difficult from personal experience, and I'd be willing to talk over PM or here if you'd like!
