I personally enjoy whisky despite living currently in a dry county, and believe in moderation and self-control. Some people know that they're prone to abusing it, and completely abstain.

I think it's lovely.
Jedi doctine is to remain in control of yourself. As long as you control the alcohol and it doesn't control you, enjoy it.
EDIT: Since we seem to be stating faves here, I am a huge fan of Screech (Canadian Rum) and Coke.

Like anything else, I believe it is fine when used in moderation by responsible people. The biggest problems come when people are irresponsible and say or do things while intoxicated that put others in danger. If your going to pickle your own live, so be it, but don't get behind the wheel and kill someone.
I've been known to toss back a few now and then (way less now than I used to due to health reasons). Now I'm more of a collector. When I do drink, it is usually Irish whiskeys, but I also enjoy a variety of beers. I also recently had the pleasure of trying the limited edition Sinatra variety of Jack Daniels. It's amazing! The only alcohol I avoid entirely is tequila because of an overindulgence in college that I'm reminded of if I even smell it.

I'll join the choir here: as with many things, I think the middle way is the most sensible one.
That said, I'm not alcohol tolerant at all and I usually refrain from imbibing in social situations because I really don't like losing control in public. In private, I'm a gin man.

What do I think of it?
I think it's great! I use it for a whole bunch of stuff. Cleaning, disinfecting, fuel for my race bike.
I recommend it!
