My name (Peter) has its origin in the greek word for "rock" - but is mainly popular (or used to be popular) for its significance in the New Testament, I guess.
Also, if I had been a girl, I would have been named "Denise" according to my mom!

Born in a latinamerican country, I was very close to being named "Jesus". Now how the hell am I supposed to live up to THAT name? :laugh:

im gonna to share something with you all, its kind of a personal story, and i hope someone finds it useful somehow
so, my dad left when i was three, and he didnt leave much for my mom and me, just an old guitar and an empty bottle of booze.
now, i dont blame him cause he ran and hid, but the meanest thing he ever did was before he left he went and named me Sue!
he must have thought that was quite a joke and it got a lot of laughs from a lot of folks, it seemed like i had to fight my whole life through. some girl would giggle and id turn red, then some guy would laugh and id have to bust his head. i tell you, life aint easy for a boy named sue.
i grew up quick and grew up mean, my fists got hard and my wits got keen as i roamed from town to town to hide my shame. so i made a vow to the moon and the stars that id search all the honkey-tonks and bars and KILL that man that gave me that awful name. it was in Gatlinburg around mid-july, i had just hit town and my throat was dry and i thought id stop and have myself a brew. in an old saloon on a street of mud there at a table, dealing stud, i saw that dirty mangy dog that named me sue. i knew the snake was my own sweet dad from a worn out picture my mother'd had, i knew the scar across his face and his evil eye.
he was big and bent, and gray and old, and i looked at him and my blood went cold and i said "MY NAME IS SUE, HOW DO YOU DO? NOW YOURE GONNA DIE!"
then i hit him hard right between his eyes and he went down but to my surprise he come up with a knife and cut off a piece of my ear. so i busted a chair across his teeth and we crashed through the wall and into the street, kicking and gouging in the mud and the blood and the beer.
i'll tell you that ive fought tougher men but i really cant remember when, he kicked like a mule and he bit like a crocodile! i heard him laugh then i heard him cuss as he went for his gun but i drew mine first, then he stood there looking at me and i saw him smile. and he said "son this world is rough and if a mans gonna make it, he has got to be tough, and i knew i wouldnt be there to help you along. so i gave you that name and i said goodbye cause i knew youd have to get tough or die, and its that name that helped to make you strong!"
he said "now you just fought one hell of a fight and i know you hate me and youve got the right to kill me now, and i wouldnt blame you if you do. but you ought to thank me before i die for the gravel in your guts and the spit in your eye, cause im the sonofabitch that named you sue!"
well what could i do?
i got choked up and i threw down my gun, called him my paw and he called me his son, and i come away with a different point of view. and i think about him every now and then. every time i try, and every time i win. and if i ever have a son, i think im gonna name him ..bill, or george, anything but sue i hate that damn name! lol
==================
didnt say it was MY personal story lol
