I love the point about exercising empathy more widely to extend ones capacity of it to overcome the potential group think mentality inherent with the instinctual drive to mimic and relate. Which makes the devils advocate in me think that exercising it only within a closed group might have the opposite and counter-productive effects of just reinforcing that group dynamic!! hehe maybe...
