Big scary council people :)

So a number of people have mentioned over the last few days that people are afraid to talk to the council or feel that they aren't allowed to.

hi I'm Brenna. Most of you have gotten to know me over the last 4 years and many of you actually know me personally not just in the forum.

I'm cheeky, passionate and playful with a bit of a touchy spot when it comes animal abuse and human rights. I love dogs and my favorite food is peanut butter cups.

I don't officially speak for the rest of the council here but I'm 99.999% sure they would agree with me when I say that you all KNOW us. Where this "we can't approach council" thing has come from, I don't know. But it's not true.

If you have questions or concerns, contact us. That's part of why we are here.

And don't believe anyone who says you can't talk to us. It's simply not true and you can come to us with anything!

I think part of it is a misunderstanding of suggestions needing to go through the Council Secretary AKA Adder. I have submitted at least two things that way but only after talking to at least one if not two Council Members about it. So I know that the reason for the submission method is to ensure proper record keeping and such. However, I think its lead some to believe mistakenly that you can't go directly to a Council member to discuss things.

I'm glad you said it. When I first started, The Council felt mysterious, even though they were listed in the FAQ and I saw them now and again. It was silly, but everyone is new in the beginning.

getting to know the council since i have returned here a bit ago has been weird at times. I find you all rather approachable tho and i have always felt free to voice disagreement when times have risen or approach councilors one on one/ I enjoy that I hope to grow in understanding with you all and i hope to continue to work with you going forward

Part of it may be that I don't think there is an actual..formal process of any kind for addressing the council or passing idea's along. Other then annoying them with PM's or mentioning the "council" in a forum reply, which may not ever get noticed.

I wish this forum had the feature (hint to ren) that other forums have where if you typed @Brenna for example and it matched the username it would send them a notification that they were mentioned and a link directly to that post so you could grab someones attention and bring them somewhere if needed. It also allowed shortcuts like @council to trigger a notification to a group etc...It makes life a lot easier on other forums like if someone asks a question and you know someone else who is an expertise in that area you can be like, I'm not sure but @Brenna, she knows a ton about animal rights I'll grab her attention.

There is no formal process. And I like it that way formalizing it would only increase the disconnect. And it's very much about assumptions.

Like for example, why would you think that it would be annoying to us to get PMs? Granted, we don't always reply straight away, but we are volunteers, with jobs and families too. We do the best we can
