Are we truly alone in this universe?

....but given the number of planetary systems out yonder it's a fair bet there is other life IMO. I tell myself Jediism is the spirituality for astronauts, for me at least, and part of that would be interacting with the unfamiliar in the most peaceful way possible along with dealing with confinement and the dangers of space flight... mentally, physically, not much more dangerous a place then a tin can floating in space
Is over prepared such a thing?

My question is -
Will we find it (or it find us) and will we be able to communicate (and will we learn this before our Star expands into a red giant and consumes half our system?)

Now, we may never meet other life, but it's out there.

Goken wrote: I believe that just due to the math we can't be alone. There are literally billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars, each with the capacity to host planets. The idea that our planet is the only one out of that astronomically huge number (see what I did there
 ) of planets is ridiculous to me.
Now, we may never meet other life, but it's out there.
I was going to say... It's a statistical improbability that our planet is the only planet with intelligent life, never mind life as a generality.

I found it sad, as I know some part of me has wanted some elder to show up and explain things to us. I suppose it is in line with many of my early religious instincts. A god or an angel, or an alien, coming to help us live well.
But, let us say, for the moment, that no one is coming. Let us say that we will encounter no intelligence apart from our own. The responsibility there is tremendous. We cannot wait to be saved or taught, apart from looking toward each other.
That said, I feel responsibility is central to my path as a Jedi. This is something to be confronted and embraced, rather than hidden from. And if someone shows up, and they come in peace, gravy.
