I was in a job that was almost combat arms. Hell the only reason we weren't, is because they didn't change the title so that women COULD be involved in it. In a combat zone, there is almost no definable difference between what the infantry can do and what an MP can do. In fact, MPs have more jobs they can perform to the point "MP" is said to mean "Multi-Purpose" rather than Military Police.
I say this because the standards for physical fitness were the same as though you were not in a combat role. Now that we've gone to a more mechanized force, the physical fitness standards don't need to change for PT, but instead they need to focus on other things that deal specifically with combat. Like, can you actually perform the movements? Can you think tactically to work with your team, etc?
Standards can remain the same as any other group, it works for others that are already in the field. The PT standards are "equal" based on the differences of physical features.

Im a vet. I have served in the front and behind. In a Cav unit...Cav Tough! Combat support Hospitals. Cash Money! I have served in a line unit as a medic. Ive worked in hospitals in theater and in the states. When standards are disregarded or changed there is always a shift in the ones who suffer from us not knowing what the actual and new standards should be, a pause of lets try it out. I don't like that time period especially if during this process we loose great assets, aka people! Times are tough and the modern day service member is way different than that of the past. Should we require them who have certifications and degrees and even some far from grunt work to serve and apply them selfs to the old and out dated rules and regs.? I say no but I also say lets be cautious about it. THOSE WHO SERVE ARE MY BROTHER. MY SISTER. OUR MOTHERS OUR FATHERS, MY SONS AND DAUGHTERS. every member is a family, a legacy of who we are. My heart goes out to all of them ! Past present and future as things grow and change.
I hope we change accordingly and safely ! My heart is with those now who are directly effected!
