The internet's a great place to learn patience and compassion, if you let it. It can be a brutal teacher, but I know it's possible to learn from it, and eventually relax back from the emotional reactions that rise up to situations here. I write this having no idea what went down - but I think in general it's important to:
  1. Not beat yourself up
  2. Learn, grow, and better yourself as you go

Hugs! :)

We are all the sum of our tears. Too little and the ground is not fertile, and nothing can grow there. Too much, the best of us is washed away. -- J. Michael Straczynski, Babylon 5

It is a strong showing of character to apologise for something. It's good that you did :)

But, if I may, I read through the beginning of that thread and what you call "attacking" didn't at all look like it. You were the one who started taking what was said personally. You were the one who dismissed what other people were saying by not listening to them. A good guide for how much consideration goes into a post is it's length, how long were your responses?

You can only be attacked if you are trying to defend yourself.

I know. At the time I felt I was defending myself. A history with this person led me to believe I was being attacked. I screwed up, in many different ways and on many different levels. I'm sorry for all of it.

I really don't want to rehash this and start the whole thing again. TotJO doesn't deserve to be dragged down by this anymore.

And I respectfully disagree that the length of the post determines how much consideration went into it, Akkarin. I post very brief statements because I:
1. want people to actually read them,
2. don't want to bog things down with an eternal wall of text,
3. am a little paranoid that anything I say will be twisted to mean something I didn't intend, (this was an issue before this incident).

When in school for writing, we were taught to take out everything of no value, that's just how good writing works. The strongest statements are brief but powerful. I still believe my poetry professor was correct in saying that.

As I said in another thread.

I try to keep things short as well Snowy :) Short and meaningful.

I understand :) I'm not going to distract the purpose of this thread any further, but will speak generally about ensuring that when we are brief in our posts we need to ensure that the meaning we are trying to convey is conveyed as best we can. Brevity is good, but brevity still requires clear communication.
