Anyone else here love to travel?

For me travel is an important aspect of my path. To see new places, people, experience other cultures, to get out and do something positive in other parts of the world as well as my backyard.

I definitely agree with the old adage that travel (travelling being distinct from vacationing) broadens the mind and allows a fresh perspective on our normal, everyday lives.

This year I've been to Estonia, Finland, Denmark (twice), all over Sweden (twice) and the South half of Iceland. Next year I'm hoping to hit Majorca, Barcelona, Berlin and a few others. One of my ultimate goals in the next few years is to climb Kilimanjaro for charity.

Do you love to travel? Where have you been recently, or where do you plan to go? Any dream destinations you're working up to? And what role do you feel travel has to play (if any) in your path as a Jedi?

There are a few places I've wanted to go. Tibet, Egypt, Easter Island.... Not too likely to be any time soon, but some day.

First time leaving the USA earlier this year to Russia and Georgia, went back home for a few months and now I'm back in Russia again cause it's so big and diverse.

I am interested in going to a lot of places: Ireland, Asia, South America, the Medierranean countries. I've learned just from Russia and Georgia that for me it's better to have a plan to visit specific places and do specific things. Some places I'm sure it'd be nice to wander, but besdies exploring and seeing the environment I think an important part for traveling as it relates to Jediism is to experience how others live. The differences, the similarities, meeting new faces, it's a wondeful thing and for me I think of it as a way to shape the way I'd like to eventually be grounded somewhere. I'd like to own some land, build a house, have a family, etc., but there's just so much to learn and experience out there. I guess you still have to be somewhat grounded to have the money for travel expenses, but really it doesn't cost much money to just travel and wander. There are hostels you can stay at for like $10 a night or less depending on the country and local currencies.

I've been to India for 18 months and a week in the Dominican Republic, and only been to a few east coast states in my home country of the US. There are a lot of places I still want to go.

I'm still a new joinee to the Jedi Order, but I think that travel would be extremely important. We should seek knowledge and understanding, and visiting another culture is a great way to learn.

Travel, for me, helps me with the development of empathy, by reminding me that in the truest sense the world (rather than the United Kingdom) is my home and thus everyone, of every nationality and culture, is my compatriot. I used to find it a little odd that I always feel so completely at home when abroad, but this seems to be what happens when you enter into travel in the spirit of embracing and living the culture, as opposed to being a tourist  *shudder*. If you behave like a tourist people will treat you as one, whereas generally if you behave like a gracious member of the community, people will do you the honor of treating you accordingly.

I've been abroad a decent number of times - 17 times to France, 3 times to Ireland (if that counts), twice to Belgium, and once a piece to Italy, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands. I don't consider myself remotely well-traveled though, having never been outside of Europe or experienced a culture vastly different from my own... :(

This is something that I'm intending to start addressing over the next few years, although I'm still a little unsure how to decide where to go first as there are so many places I want to visit...

I'm also a little apprehensive about the idea of travelling alone, which is probably what will end up happening. Anyone here want to travel the world with me? ;)

I'm unable to travel these days (aside from the occasional vaycay to visit my sister), but I was born an Air Force "brat". I've been from Alamogordo to Denver, to Biloxi, to Guam, to Panama City. Then after dad retired we moved to Key West, to Biloxi again, then I left for Kansas, then came back here yet again. On the one hand you have to get used to the idea that nothing is permanent, and that there are few things in life you can count on, on the other, I met many different people with many different ways, and I believe I've grown thanks to this. :)

Too expensive!! But we plan to after 2020 if I'm still alive and kicking, probably Hawaii first, then France... maybe a Cruise to kick things off. I don't even have a passport

But I have lived in 5 different cities here in Australia and am used to doing double digit hour drives to visit different relatives. If Ms Adder would let me get my pilot license we could hire a light aircraft instead
