I saw this video and thought it was quite interesting- What do you all think? Is advertising destroying our spirits and mental abilities? Is the destruction of the enviroment an outward larger sign of what we might be doing inwardly to ourselves and those around us?

I'd also like to offer this other video almost in contrast to the first- It isn't about advertising persay but instead about brands but it's closely related I believe. It seems much more hopeful somehow.

Personally, I believe we are responsible for ourselves, including educating ourselves if possible. I also believe that advertising does have an effect on us, and this effect is mostly unknown in any clarity, and may well damage us on some level whether mental or spiritual and that looking after the enviroment will come more easily and naturally when we start looking after ourselves in a larger sense of what 'I' is- our families, friends, strangers, bodies, enviroments, and the entirety of what is here.
Enjoy the discussion,

Augmented reality glasses could unleash a more pervasive presence for advertising.... but I'd hope eventually one would get paid to have to watch/listen to it.

This raises some really good points. For instance, I am currently wearing a Guardians of the Galaxy t-shirt. Technically that means I paid good money to advertise a Disney-Marvel movie machine. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, it really depends on whether one is comfortable with that. Actually I didn't buy the shirt, it was a gift from my mother, we both enjoyed the movie. But in the future, I feel I'd be much more comfortable wearing a T-shirt with the Mozilla Firefox brand/logo; it really is about the quality of the values behind the brand I'm supporting.

I haven't watched TV during my adult life (and have probably watched no more than 10 movies), so I can't comment on advertisement media and its effects, but I'm thankful that I'm not exposed to them.

i suspect that the experience of being constantly bombarded by advertising, which is inherently misleading and manipulative, gives a message at the less-than-fully-conscious level, that it is OK to BE misleading and manipulative - not just OK, but NORMAL
why wouldnt it be ok to manipulate and mislead when its ok to be subjected to it at every single moment?
