Jedi are human beings. There are situations where a Jedi might need to carry a weapon. For example, if they live in a bad area where people are getting shot every day, they might want to carry a gun for self defense. And there are situations where no one should carry a weapon: in a school, in a well-off neighborhood, etc.
A Jedi might want to go hunting in order to get dinner, and that requires a weapon; and they might be a police officer, soldier, or bodyguard. It might simply be a matter of practicality that a Jedi carries a weapon.
But the weapon is a tool, like a hammer or a fork. It can be used for good things and bad things, and I don't think a Jedi would carry a weapon with the intention of using it for nefarious purposes. And in our modern age it really is pointless in most situations to carry a weapon. The fictional Jedi are negotiators and people who uphold the law. Not all of us are anything like that! So I don't think that it would make much sense for us to start carrying dress swords or firearms as part of our Jediism.

In my opinion...

Your mind is a weapon...

And, a Jedi who is aware of his surroundings, and mentally prepared forbade fight, has little need for exterior weapons...

I could use a pencil, branch, broomstick, chair, wall, shoe, etc...

I find no need to carry any weapon except my pocket knife (which includes a seat belt cutter, and glass breaker) and my.multitool...

And in my years, I've opened more boxes with my knife, and tightened more screws/nuts than ever had the need to defend myself...

Although both COULD be weapons, its not why I carry them...

On walk-about...

I don't arm myself as a Jedi because I'm a Jedi.

I do, however, arm myself as a person because I, as an individual, feel the desire to be armed. I also feel the responsibility to understand the safety, maintenance, and use of that armament for the safety of those around me. For that reason, I will never arm myself in a public space with a weapon I cannot fully utilize to its potential with complete precision.

Something that appeals to me, especially since it's legal to carry and walk with a cane or walking stick, is canne de combat .

Yyyyup. If I wouldn't look like a hipster douche bag (as a 23 year old male) with a cane, I would TOTALLY arm myself this way.

The only reason I'm not armed is because I live on a college campus. *sigh*

I've needed a cane off and on since I was 14 or 15. I carry a lot of them. They're stupidly handy.

I always find good cause to carry at minimum a non-lethal weapon for defense and defense of others. Day to day living the Jedi teachings keep us out of trouble. Others however don't walk the straightest of lines. When we are available to help those in need, odds are the company they keep will not be so peaceful.
I would always condone unarmed combat first until the adversary draws their weapon. My personal favorite would be Kali, Escrima, and Arnis to me it was the best transferability between ranges: close (unarmed), mid (knife, lethal or non-lethal), long (stick or machete). The basic movements make quick consistent contact and for more advanced practitioners can perform great grappling moves.
