It is just a well then that we are not defined by the fiction :)

It won't let me have a blank signature ...

Agreed.

It's one thing to be inspired by something, quite another to emulate it completely (which we don't).

To be honest, I think we fairly well can emulate the post-Episode 6 Jedi. Luke's order is far closer to how we are now.

I don’t know what the post episode 6 Jedi look like (never read EU post RotJ). I was thinking of the article in how it defines the Jedi in episodes 1-3 when I made my comment.

I agree with the above posters of course, its irrelevant to us....

...but to the article about the fiction I disagree. The lesson's in the fiction are designed to foster development of something which reveals something else, and Anakin failed because he could not grasp the fundamental nature of the lesson's and instead clung to literal interpretations and unwittingly chained himself down for the Sith to feed on his vulnerability.

It is the difference between esoteric and exoteric IMO, that something must be discovered through experience and development of ones spirit of self.

I don't really think a religion is esoteric if it keeps stuff hidden, but instead if ones path reveals something that only commitment and experience 'can' reveal. So in short Anakin treated it like an exoteric path when in fact it was esoteric. The Sith then use that mistake, and pretend to 'reveal secrets' which resonates with Anakin's own misunderstanding and Anakin is ripe to be misled by the contrived exoteric experience provided by Palpatine - which in fact is just Palpatine manipulating Anakin. I think the article makes the same mistake.

*puts on nerd glasses*

wait....We don't have nerd glasses Smilies!?!? WHA!!?! This must be fixed!! *Pokes Proteus* Who is in charge of the smilie department?!

Ahem...Okay. I didn't read the article...But it's pretty easy to assume it means a very...very...VERY....small portion of Star Wars Fictional history.

Like I state often. If you don't read the fiction and learn it's history....you really should just sit down when trying to involve fiction in your arguments. ((No offense to you LTK ;) I know you were just basing off the article/OP )) Just like in real life....get your facts straight before you enter an argument.

And also just like in real life....The Jedi went through many many stages, era's, generations, practices and methods. What you see in the movies is just a small SLIVER to what the Jedi, The Force, and the beliefs really are.

Darkside/Lightside
Can't Marry
Jedi Code
Methods of Training
Jedi were Kidnappers!!!
Jedi were KILLERS!!!!

All of these exist within small portions of the entire history of Jedi. So small in fact, that they are hardly worth dwelling on. But of course...thanks to Media....we only visually see through movie's and video games these dark times. Why? Well....Because the dark times are the best time's to show! Common! War! Chaos! Darkside! Lighsaber battles!! Who want's to see a movie of peaceful people meditating all day? Pfft....Boring! :pinch:

As connor pointed out. The Luke Skywalker Era before the Yuzaung Vong was a great fictional example we could learn from. Another great time would be the Je'daii before they plunged into war. They lived a very blissful life of learning and training and BEING Jedi.

Regardless of all of that. Another important lesson we can take from Fiction, knowing that they, in fiction, 'Change with the Time's' as we do. We can then Surmise that, in real life, we can fashion our own knowledge and training base off of what our Modern life allow's. Kidnapping Children for sake of the force....Yea. Not likely.

Never discount our Fictional Roots.....Yet more importantly. Be realistic and think with that big brain of your's from time to time ;)
