Why do you believe in Jediism? Is Jediism a real religion? was created by
Hello!
I just discovered Jediism through the internet. As a lover of Star Wars, I would very much like to understand more about TOTJO and what Jediism actually is. I understand that Jediism is not recognized as an official religion, so do you all believe it is a real religion? Why and what made you believe in it?
Thanks so much
Vanna

Hi Bannabear,
Jediism is a real religion. I can say it's real because I practice it, and I know at least one other person who practices it. If you would read the doctrine, found here: http://www.templeofthejediorder.org/doctrine-of-the-order , you would see the various ideas that make up our belief system. We are only inspired by the Jedi of the movies. From there, we deviate in a lot of ways.
From the Doctrine:
In the Force, and in the inherent worth of all life within it.
-- So, what do we believe the Force is? It's debated! Each person has his/her idea of what the Force might be. I believe, personally, that EVERYTHING is the Force, and thinking of everything as one entity helps me see the connections between everything.
In the sanctity of the human person. We oppose the use of torture and cruel or unusual punishment, including the death penalty.
In a society governed by laws grounded in reason and compassion, not in fear or prejudice.
In a society that does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or circumstances of birth such as gender, ethnicity and national origin.
In the ethic of reciprocity, and how moral concepts are not absolute but vary by culture, religion and over time.
In the positive influence of spiritual growth and awareness on society.
In the importance of freedom of conscience and self-determination within religious, political and other structures.
In the separation of religion and government and the freedoms of speech, association and expression.
Other than the first one, there isn't too much far outness to believe in.
You can be a Jedi if you want to be. And, nobody can take that away from you.
Welcome,
Connor

Vanna,
I'm a seeker, like yourself, and don't speak for TotJO...
Whether or not I view Jediism as a religion, my beliefs shouldn't change yours... You should assess the information presented and decide for yourself...
Is Jediism a religion, in your current opinion?
Try to see behind the movies and look more at the myths which informed and inspired Lucas. Life recombines DNA every day, Jediism is actively re-combing belief systems. Time will tell how long its flame burns.
Asst. Pastor Akkarin did an informative interview with a Mormon Podcaster, thread is in the Jediism area...

My Jediism is a choice. I believe it's right. Some have the courage and conviction to follow it religiously.
It's not a requirement for Membership that someone believe Jediism is a religion. Some call it a way of life, a spiritual path or a philosophy.
TOTJO Ministers can conduct weddings and sign marriage licenses anywhere in the United States just like Catholic Priests, Jewish Rabbi's and Ministers of countless other religions. That's as close as it gets to being recognized as a religion in the US because the First Amendment does not allow the federal government or any state to say if something is a religion or not.
Even if you become a member the question of Jediism being a religion yours to answer.
Thank you for asking.

The religion is not a religion but an actual choice of higher thinking. If you knew all the pieces of a puzzle by size and by name and their functions it wouldn't take you long to figure out its solution on you could even do it in your mind. This world is full of things sometimes we dont have the answers to but at least you can identify the pieces and the functions of life. Religion is a organized idea and we are defiantly organized lol Please feel free to ask anything at any time, The Temple is full of good us full information! Welcome friend!

Here is the link to that podcast with Akkarin, it answers quite a few questions in my personal opinion about the general feel for what Jediism is, and was presented very well too I might add...
