“A father in Daytona Beach, Florida, called 911 early Friday morning to report that when he found someone sexually abusing his 11-year-old son, he beat the assailant until he was “nice and knocked out” for police to apprehend.
The father says that when he got home, the look on Frolander’s face made him think something was wrong. The father says Frolander’s pants fell down to his ankles “and nothing else needed to be said” when he saw exposed genitals.
When the 911 dispatcher asked the father whether he used weapons to knock out Frolander, the father told the dispatcher, “my fist and my foot.”

A very noble thing to do, in comparison to what I would've done to him.

Just wondering what the point of the thread is? I know its General Discussion but you just copy and pasted a news story.
If its to compare ideal unrestrained emotional reactions..... I'd worry those bruises will heal. See you'd want to make the injuries look like accidents from controlled restraining, you know get their hands behind their backs, zip tie, then dislocate both shoulders so bad they'll never play tennis again... and say it happened while moving him with his arms behind his back.
Bugger, now I've said it publically I cannot as easily use it as a legitimate accident :pinch:
I'm not sure their was any struggle, if not then the violence was unnecessary, but of course understandable. He is lucky he didn't get something cut off in the fathers moment of rage!!!

Whats the point of starting any thread?
Discussion.
You dont have a "Current events" thread, or at least I didnt see it, or I" would of posted it there.
I also copy and paste for the " This week in Science" thread, to which no one has asked me for a point, and ironically, doesnt garner much discussion.

Would I be able to control myself were I to walk in and find a similar situation in my house?
To be quite honest, I don’t know.
I will also be honest in saying that if I were not able to keep anger in check I would have probably not stopped with just a beating and would be arrested for murder. I believe a jury would acquit me after due process, but it would end up being what it would be.
I like to think that like most parents I am very protective of my child.

I saw the news story, read it, and first thing that came to mind was to applaud the father for his actions. I know my parents would shoot any invader of our home if it were needed, and my old fashioned style of dealing with these situations, if it was up to me at that point, were this my child or sister, I would kill. Now, I abhor violence. I'm a peaceful person. But I recognize the need to sometimes enforce what needs to happen. And usually before I resort to violence, I attempt reason. Most people, I've discovered, have an innate desire to live. If you can appeal to that, then you can avert the issues. If, like in this situation that has been brought up, you discover something already in motion, it is your right, in your own home, to put an end to it. Protecting those in one's own household takes precedence over everything else. If you have to kill, you call the police and explain what happened. But in your home, if such an atrocious thing is occurring, self control is a good thing, but not necessary. It is perfectly reasonable to expect someone to use violence in protecting one's family from immediate danger.

I read about this a few days ago....it happened here in florida...stand your ground law state...he's lucky dad didn't have a gun... he's also lucky dad didn't take his "gun"...I don't know how long after he lost consciousness it would be before I stopped...I imagine I'd be pretty feral if I came home and discovered that happening to my child(if I ever have any)

I don't have children but I can't blame anyone for reacting in this way. Ultimately the child is who I would be most concerned about. Would it benefit the child to see their abuser beaten or even killed? Personally I don't think so. Also depending on who the abuser was it could put the child at more risk. I'm not sure if I'd be able to control myself but I think it would be best if I could. I would certainly call the police and try to restrain the abuser until they arrived.

I don't applaud his violence, but I applaud him for restraining and not killing the man. In doing so he reconciled his need to protect and, in part, avenge his son with the need for an abused child to have a father who's not locked up in jail.
Those of us who are parents might wish to consider the consequences of those kinds of actions now, in a calm and impersonal setting, so that should we ever be unlucky enough to find ourselves in a similar situation we have some idea of the long-term implications of various short-term courses of action.
It's easy to say "I'd kill him!" or, I imagine, to react in that way. But it wouldn't be easy on our kids. If I found out my son had been abused, you can be damn sure I'd do whatever it took to be there for him, even if it went against my gut instincts.
