A Basket of Eggs - A Story of Us

There was a young man who desired a basket full of eggs. Yet, he had no basket. And he had no eggs. He knew no basketweavers nor farmers, but his heart was set on a basket overflowing with eggs. So, he went to his friends to ask their advice.

"I would like a basket of eggs! It would be lovely, but I don't know where to start. Can you please help me?"

Some of them said "You must get a basket first. It is no good having eggs if you have no basket, for you'll have nothing to put your eggs in and they'll all roll away!"

Some of them said "You must gather the eggs first. What use is the basket with no eggs to put in it? You may not even find enough eggs to fill the basket, so you'll have wasted your money!"

Some of them said "A basket of eggs is a foolish notion. No one needs so many eggs that they require a basket to store them in. It's foolish, and I'll have no part in your nonsense."

And some remained quiet, for though they knew where to get eggs, and some of them sold baskets, they didn't think it was their place to prove the others wrong, for the opinions of the others were founded in their own experiences with farmers and basket-weavers, and it was no one's place to question their beliefs.

In this way, everyone thought they were helping the boy who wanted the basket of eggs, but in truth, the boy walked away with no basket, no eggs, and a heavy heart. His basket of eggs now seemed an impossible dream.

That's actually a fantastic little story, where did you hear it from?

I wrote it because I see it happen on this forum daily, and I'm sick to death of it. Every time someone proposes a project, or a subforum, or an offline group, or a fundraising activity, this little story unfolds. Every. Single. Time.

It's ludicrous. It gets us nowhere. I don't know how to fix the problem, personally, but the first step is pointing it out.

Precisely ...

This is quite what I was hoping to get to in the sermon last Monday evening ; but couldn't get about it quite as creatively as this.

Well written, Mitchell ...

Could we move this to the Sermons page ? It is worth keeping ... ;)

Im always playing devil's advocate, lol...

Great story...

And, agreed it is sermon quality...

And we all have to be aware of where we are in a story...

IN my life story, I am the hero, in every other story, supporting cast, lol... Sometimes I have a bigger part, sometimes smaller....

Is this story about a boy? Is it about the conditions we all meet in every decision we face?

Buy a new car, Chevy, Ford, or Dodge? A new home? City or country?

Opinions will vary...:)

My opinion on the story? Right or wrong, here you go...:)

Ultimatly, it is the boys fault...

You seek the advice of many, but, if he still wants the basket of eggs, he has to make the decision on what to do first...

You will always have pros and cons....

In our most recent interaction, (I read your input as to why) you wouldnt be up for that as a method of fundraising...

For yourself...

Perfectly logical, and with good reason...

The boy, after getting all of the opinions, has to make the commitment to continue his search... He must not have been wanting them too bad, lol...

+++++++++++++++++++
As to TOTJO and our issues... lol...

Lots of ideas... Not enough people to carry them out... Yet...;)

On walk-about...

Jedi ain't Saints....
