He wasn't asking the question of "someone". He was asking the question of his apprentice. Asking it of "someone" could be just simple curiosity. Asking those same questions of one's apprentice is almost a precursor to a lesson or instruction of some sort. Like I said...I've never heard of a mentor/master/teacher ask those types of questions of their students out of idle curiosity. There is always a reason for the asking.

The word "Apprentice" means student. So I fail to see how even having one doesn't qualify as teaching, even if only by example, as the implication is that the apprentice will watch and learn from the master, regardless of any "active" instruction.

Yes....

And we will all learn from this kind of a 'lesson'...

They are everywhere as i believe was stated....

We can only be concerned about what seems as 'active' teaching...:)

Oh my. All this fuss over someone teaching something? God forbid you "pass on what you have learned".

It's becoming increasingly apparent to me that this place is not so much representative of a religion as it is a cult. In most religions anyone can share knowledge, or even mentor a person who may need guidance. Instead, it seems this Temple is more like an old-time Catholic church, where only the priests are allowed to have access to the bible.

There was a time where the Jedi community thrived, because knowledge and wisdom were shared freely. Ever since these classes and ranks took over, the life has been drained from the Force. Where is the freedom? The inspiration? The insight? The unity? The flow?

Many here rely more on what their "master" says than what the Force guides them to.

Formal teaching Streen....

Come on now, you know we dont censor...

But, if someone want to take an apprentice, here in the 'walls' and place that we provide, we ask that they have at least gone through our training as it is...

DOnt like the training? Do it, and then get in a position to change it....

The last time you felt this way, you left, then you came back, realizing we are not as bad as you think, but the minute someone tells someone else 'NO' everyone screams that we are a cult, close minded, whatever...

I tell people 'NO' in the physical world too...

Sometimes, it aint about you, its about the whole....

I don't understand why it's an issue that teaching done under the banner of the Temple has to be approved by the Temple, as led by the Council.

If you don't want to be constrained by our rules, codified and maintained by our Council, there are other places. The Temple holds to the code, creed and teachings. So... not much of a cult.

Nothing is keeping you here but yourself. May the Force guide you.

The Temple of the Jedi Order is open, allowing for and encouraging the exchange of thoughts and practices. It has an identity expressed in its doctrine. Our shared doctrine is analogous to the establishment of mutually agreed upon borders - the Temple is many things, but it is not all things. The borders (rules and doctrines) also identify what we are not. What I have seen here: even those who disagree may express their disagreement and exchange their ideas with our membership; but there are limits. That the borders (rules and doctrines) are identified and enforced is an ethical good.
