Down the rabbit hole
What if the reality revealed to someone who took the red pill was something simple, yet unseen by the majority of people within the modern world, rather than an alternate reality outside of the visionary system designed by self-aware machinery. What if the reality which was revealed was that instead of machines raising humans as controlled livestock, it was those in positions of power who oversaw the creation and control of living beings born for the sole purpose of forwarding the agenda of an advanced socioeconomic system of which only the elite few knew about and benefited from. What if, upon learning of this reality, you discovered that not only were the odds against you to do anything about this situation, but that to take any action against the state would label you as a disturbed of the peace among your lesser informed “peers”. So now having taken the red pill, you are in a situation where you are aware of a great injustice being done to the people of the world, but are powerless to stop it. What good has come of the knowledge you gained. What have you gained except internal anguish and torment at the discovery of a system designed to control the lives of the individuals within it.
On the other hand, let’s say that you take the blue pill. You suddenly forget why you were conversing with the individual in question, and what you were conversing about. You go on your merry way, just another pawn in the elaborate illusion painted by those in control. Eventually, you may come to the same questions that led you to seek the “red pill – blue pill” scenario to begin with, and end up in a potentially endless cycle of seeking the answers to your questions, yet always turning down the potential revolutionary truth for fear of what it could mean; of what it could do.
And then, there is the option of the purple pill. It contains the hidden answers of the red pill, yet the elements of the blue pill which hides those answers from you. Now, you go through life with the knowledge that some part of the existence you are living in is an illusion, yet you are unable to determine what part of your life is the illusion and what part is the truth. You have the potential to discover the full truth of the world you live in and the illusions which hide it from you, but you are too fearful of what doing so may mean; of what it may result in.
In my view, it doesn’t matter which choice you make. In any scenario, you are either aware about the illusionary system in place and are unable to do anything about it, or are unaware about the illusionary system in place, and are unable to do anything about it. If enough people became aware of the illusion they lived in and demanded that it be removed from their lives, then perhaps things would change in that scenario. But as it is, in such a situation the majority of the populous would be “asleep” and unaware of the illusion the lived in, and so therefore extremely unlikely to contribute to meaningful change in the world.

If you are not going to DO anything about it, why concern yourself? It is like the fools who go on about "9/11" being an "inside job". Whether it was or was not, what are these idiots DOING about it? NOTHING! They just whine! They whine and profit from generating conspiracy hype... authoring videos... selling seeds for the "apocalypse" they claim is coming. Going on about how people should buy gold and cling to their worthless Constitution... Should hold on to their guns, as "they the evil government are coming to take them away.. Ha.. Ha!" They offer no solutions and never mind they do not even have a clue why their government might do such a thing? Do they even wonder if it was done for a reason beyond money from oil and war? Morons! They never see both sides of the game board... So, they can NEVER make an informed choice (if they ever even could make a choice to begin with).

There is a plaque in my parents house that I saw every day growing up. I think it's appropriate given your response. It reads "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Funny I was just yesterday having a Matrix contemplation and watching the Animatrix for the first time so neato to see this thread!!!! I was considering if there were two sides to perception - if the red pill is how Neo saw the world, and the blue pill is how others saw Neo. In the movie, Neo could have taken the blue pill and lived on as a reflection of how others see him, trying to fit in but instead having no soul.... something was missing. He took the red pill and instead the world turned into how he saw it (exaggerated for the movie into a sci-fi story), and found 'freedom'. Unfortunately for Neo, his vision of reality did not conform with the 'rules' of the reality matrix and so the system bit back (in its theme'd way trying to kill him and all like him). The problem with this is Neo needed to play that role to survive in that reality, so it was not so much how others saw him, but just that he was actually trying to fit in with others and he compared his success at that to how others reacted to his anxiety about having to bother... ie lazy and unmotivated. I think he needed to go do something exciting. His self worth was based on concepts not intended to define any one self. Of course as it turned out in the movie there did happen to be a simulation run by giant robot armies...
I'd hopefully just reorientate myself to have a better understanding of that new reality and how I want to fit into it, using my Jedi training and all that
