(help needed) ending a meditative state

How do y'all come out of your meditation? I have found loads of helpful advice on how to begin meditation or how to dive deeper, but I haven't seen much on tips of how to return to the real world. Today when I came to I felt a bit overwhelemed and I feel like theres a better way, I just do not know it yet.

Come out of it slowly -- re-dynamise your muscles, and stretch before opening your eyes.

I either retrace the steps in reverse if possible to 'reanimate' myself gradually, or rebuild myself using contemplation on simple and then more complex mathematical relationships.... after all math is the language of relationships and it could be said our awareness is a relationship between a subjective conscious stream flowing through an illusory objective landscape - so simple exercising of quantification does help seat myself back into reality sometimes.

When entering the state, you may take yourself there by counting down from a certain chosen number, counting with each exhale of your breath. When you are ready to come out, just count back up to that number from 0 with each exhale - like counting steps going down into a basement, and then back up out of it.

"Came to"?
What do you do when you wake up in the morning?

wait, we are supposed to come out?
When life overwhelms, gets moving too fast, when you stop paying attention to the NOW, when you stop, and go "what the hell?"
That's when you are out of the meditative state, if you ask me....
It isn't, shouldn't be, just 20 minutes, an hour, a day....
Or so i think....

I both meditate and Journey to a Shamanism drumming MP3. In it, at the end, they play a series of drumbeats to let you know it's time to start your return. The books I've been reading said that on a Journey, thank the spirits you are with and say "Good bye". They said to say "Good bye" even if you aren't with anybody. It's a sign to your spirit to return.
I was in a Journey once and suddenly had to pee.... I was in such a state I felt as if my head was still in the clouds and I was in more of a dream then in the gym heading to the bathroom. Is this what you mean by overwhelmed?
Since then, I've always made the effort to return instead of snapping out of it
I know you said meditations, but I journey as apart of mine.
It was just another thought. Maybe it'll help

Slowly, gently, kindly.
I usually use a meditation timer which has a nice long-ringing bell. The bell gives me something of a jolt, but by the time the ring has completely faded I aim to return my awareness to my body, gradually begin flexing muscles in my hands and feet, then arms and legs. Last of all I gradually open my eyes, looking at my feet before me, then up to take in the rest of the room. This takes anything from one to three minutes, depending on how deep I've gone in the session.
Not only does it make coming back to the room easier, it helps me maintain the peace and mindful state when I get up.

We all will meet situations in life where things will happen we will never have the answer to. What can separate one person from another is how each reacts to these given events. No matter what, you will have the opportunity to reply, where others only react.
You like all of us cannot get ahead in life if you were never once behind. There are a lot of opinions and experiences here, but they are not yours. There are so many here that I honestly cannot imagine what you are going to do with them. Are you going to test them all out, take the one which tickles your fancy, or the best sounding explanation? And what do you do if you take one or all? You will always know what W, X, Y or Z said but you will never really know what if not, or how, or what it took. What will not kill you can only make you stronger, so what is stopping you from taking the plunge for yourself?
