Another thing I have been doing lately is playing around with making , wood gasifiers

I've made several wood gas stover. They work very well, are lite weight, easy fuel. They take a little prep work and experience but their fun to work with. I can boil a qt of water in five min and simmer for 5 more. I'll find the link for my favorite.

Ren If I caught a wild rabbit I'd roast it. I'll have my beef steaks rare and pink in the middle though. :)

canned dog/cat food works well in a pinch...it's high in protein and contains moisture...both are vital in survival situations...and will be abundant when the s.h.t.f since most people will raid grocery stores(which only have enough food items for 3 days of business)....plus the canned stuff doesn't require refrigeration etc...

a bag of charcoal crushed into small bits with a coffee filter works well for filtering most water into something drinkable...

a good first aid kit is an absolute must have....

most importantly don't wipe with poison ivy, poison oak, or poison sumac...unless you like an uber itchy arse....

On the charcoal thing... you want to get a charcoal that is not presoaked in lighter fluid. Just an FYI. Otherwise, you still won't be able to drink what comes out. Or at least you will be sad when you do! hahahahhahaha :woohoo:

Also, I agree about pet food. I know that in the US, pet food is required by the FDA because in times of economic difficulty people have been known to eat it. So as a precautionary measure that law requirement was past a while ago ( I can't remember exactly when though ). I have had several pets, and of all the pet foods I have given them, Alpo probably smells the best. I wonder what it tastes like? :P

I'll check out the charcoal thing, makes sense.

Dog food? If it smell good it taste good. Tried it and it was...well as good as any can human product. Other than a small taste I just couldn't get myself to eat a big scoop. I'd have to have fries with it. :) :cheer:

dog food for me would be a last resort, I'm sure you could find plenty of edibles in the urban jungle, also just out of curiosity, would active carbon from an aquatics shop provide the same filtration value as charcoal ??

*when you think about it... that's the last place someone would look for food... but if they stock freshwater piranha etc it's an easy source of protein.

earthworms, birds eggs, seaweed (i live in a city beside a river),fresh roadkill... there's likely plenty food available in places no one else would think to look.

I would think that active carbon would filter better than charcoal, but I really can't say. I mean, I have NO proff one way or another. Deffinately worth looking into!

I think that food is far more abundant then people realize. I ahev some recipes for things that most people woldn't think of, but they are all at home and I have to wait to post them till I get there.

So, who all is going to do their grocery shopping at the local pet store now?

hahahahhahaha :woohoo:

Sorry... I had a silly moment! :P  :silly: :side:

I like raw and rare meats. Never caught anything from it either.

That's because the meats you eat are farm raised. You don't catch anything right away, they slowly creep into you DNA and give you cancer and a host of other long term illnesses. Unlike hunted game, which will either be good or tainted. The only way to keep from getting sick is to cook it till its no longer pink. FIRE...That's what kills the germs.

This is a survival thread, when you are out in the "wild", raw can kill! Sometimes though, raw is better than starvation.

I would think so too Master Wardest, active carbon is used to keep your fish tank clean, so surely it would make rainwater safe to drink... *though it's safe anyway depending on your collection system... a carbon filter wouldn't hurt matters*

What I'm wondering now though is two things...

1:- based on the Jedi belief that the body is just a vehicle and it is the consciousness that makes a person, upon that persons transcendence, would it be within the Jedi philosophy to eat the vehicle (human flesh)??

2:- how many people here would do it not only as a last resort ?

I know if I was hungry and there was nothing else I'd be tempted to roast a rump steak for myself, apparently we taste awesome lol.

(I'll add to that... this is a conversation I had with my brother whom I informed could eat me, as in the opposing situation I would eat him, I know he's free of diseases etc so I'd have no worry about contracting anything from him, surely in that situation you would offer yourself up to your family member knowing that your flesh is safe for them to eat and will ensure their survival)

Eating human is probably the least healthy thing you can do. Although it would make sense when facing certain death from starvation.
