Scientist says mineral study shows life on Earth began on Mars
AUGUST 29, 2013

"Professor Benner, from The Westheimer Institute for Science and Technology in Florida, will today present evidence at the European Association of Geochemistry's annual conference that a mineral essential to the creation of life was only available on Mars.

"The evidence seems to be building that we are actually all Martians; that life started on Mars and came to Earth on a rock," Professor Benner said in a statement.

Professor Benner's evidence is based on the evidence that the ingredients needed to create life included the oxidised mineral form of the element molybdenum.

"This form of molybdenum couldn't have been available on Earth at the time life first began, because three billion years ago the surface of the Earth had very little oxygen, but Mars did," he said.
"

Wow hey!!
While I doubt we migrated in space ships, I'm hoping one day they find some evidence of ancient civilization on Mars!!!! LOL, I might be waiting for a long time. Does this justify us going back to Mars?

That's sort of cool, I suppose ...

I just don't quite get how that is any more interesting than we used to be fish, mice or monkeys. People use the percentage of DNA that we share with animals to support animal rights, ignoring that we share 75 % (environ) of DNA with cucumbers, all the while committing the atrocities les plus grossières against those with whom we share 100 % (or close to it) of DNA ...

... is knowing that some fundamental element of Life - which is pretty ubiquitous, really - came from Mars, or even elsewhere, really going to make a difference ? That 3,5 billion years ago, life originated on Mars, or that last week some stupid corporation got a contract do to strip-mining there (a contract with whom ?), does that have a significant impact on human relations ? Will it aid in promoting solidarity, altruism or compassion ?

... or is it just "sorta cool" ?

It's more the novelty that we aren't native to the big blue marble we currently inhabit. Evolving on a planet is one thing; traveling from another one to evolve is quite another.

Oh ?

... some of us would consider that almost so common as to be trivial.

It's not really that surprising.

It's truly wonderful, though, because it confirms some suspicions that I've had. Our obsessions with Martians may be more inherent than fiction's hold on us. ;)

If we find definitive proof that life came from Mars it also moves us one step closer to proving that life can exist elsewhere in the universe, not just our tiny corner. And it further invalidates all those hokey religions and ancient fairytales. Woo! :P

I actually just recently hypothesized this very same premise! Haha.

“Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man.” -Zhuangzi

“Though, as the crusade presses on, I find myself altogether incapable of staying here in saftey while others shed their blood for such a noble and just cause. For surely must the Almighty be with us even in the sundering of our nation. Our fight is for freedom, for liberty, and for all the principles upon which that aforementioned nation was built.” - Patrick “Madman of Galway” O'Dell

I think it's a piece of information like Richard III being buried in a car park.
Nothing actually groundbreaking it's just nice to know.
