I saw this the other day, and I thought of a few members we have had here...

And, the occasional clamorings for those members to be kicked out, or to be blocked...

We don't like doing that...

idk why I Favorited this, except that I guess I expected more conversation from it, lol...

I don't actually agree with it completely.... It's not always about fear of what could or is being said... Sometimes people just want to harrass or be aggressive or troll people just for fun.. Or for whatever other reasons they do it.

(Plus we don't cut out people's tongues... they can go speak elsewhere)

I get that, and in principle I agree, but at some point I'm like, "Enough Already!" :pinch:

Perhaps that just means I have patience yet to develop. :dry:

I'm kinda torn on this. One hand, if a loud and obnoxious liar keeps talking pooju it's easy enough to ignore and disregard whatever they say. Eventually, everyone will catch on that that person is unreliable and the liar will have no one who listens.

On the other hand, the Temple forums are a place where trolls can try to spam and incite flame wars. I haven't seen much of that. I remember one time a guy actually registered just to post on his profile wall that he thinks Jediism isn't a real religion and that we should all "get a life". I don't know what happened to him, but nobody really payed much attention to him and I haven't seen him since his first post.

I'm sure it wasn't the first time someone has done that, but I'm just recalling one time that I remember.

If you tear their tongue out after they had said all they were going to say, you are proving that they are unwelcome, not that their words are feared. I am not above alienating just about anybody if that is what freedom of speech and the press demand, and yet there are a few tongues that had been cut around TOTJO for which I enjoy taking some of the credit. The way I find to unite these two things in peace is this: Nobody here was censored exclusively for their ideas. Nobody's tongue was cut out of fear of what it might otherwise say. The few people who were made to leave were made to leave because of the ways they conducted themselves in spite of full awareness of their wrongdoing. They were allowed to speak their minds, as is everybody else, and they had said all they needed to say. But not all freedoms are as guaranteed as that. Some things are less acceptable than others.

Goken made a valid point in his last rant involving "shepherds." Instead of wanting people banned (people can start multiple accounts on multiple ip addresses, which makes this pointless to those determined to ruffle feathers and troll) what about more moderators? It's not intended to point fingers or Insult, so please don't take that out of context. A discussion can turn south, and with only two moderators, a lot can happen before either Adder or Des are aware of it. I don't think another moderator or two is a bad idea if there are knights willing to serve a little time...

Often the truth won't fit into a simple soundbite or meme. There comes a time when someone has had ample chance to voice their dissent, and that to continue to bark is just disruptive.

I am surprised a site of this size has only two mods. Another forum I frequent has a moderator for each category, usually along with at least one assistant mod.

The admins also moderate..
