what does it mean when you're so good at talking to people that you can actually manipulate peoples' emotions and thoughts just by using a couple of sentences. i remember back in year 9 last year at school, i was getting bullied and all my mates were trying to get me to hurt him to make him stop. i decided that i wouldn't hurt him and so i endured for a couple weeks. after a while, it became too much for me, so i decided to have a little "chat" with him. only a few sentences into the conversation and i had him ready to cry, doubting the worth of his very existence. i feel bad for what i said to him, realizing that words can cut pretty deep, but is there something i can do to make use of this "talent" for good?

Proverbs 12:18 (KJ21)
18 There is he that speaketh like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is healing.

“Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind.”
― Rudyard Kipling

“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts.”
― Patrick Rothfuss

“Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o-er wrought heart and bids it break.”
― William Shakespeare

This one I think may help you best...

“Words can be twisted into any shape. Promises can be made to lull the heart and seduce the soul. In the final analysis, words mean nothing. They are labels we give things in an effort to wrap our puny little brains around their underlying natures, when ninety-nine percent of the time the totality of the reality is an entirely different beast. The wisest man is the silent one. Examine his actions. Judge him by them.”
― Karen Marie Moning

Yes, I know what it is like to sing dragons to sleep, to sooth the sting of the Scorpion ...

Warfare is only one thing one may do with words. One may as easily choose to sing. :)

Chaque homme a des devoirs envers l'homme en tant qu'homme.

I used to be a master debater   post reported :pinch:

I'd be remembering the existence of power does not justify the use of power... but yea I've always tried to differentiate debating from arguing as one is without emotions and other is. So in how I used the term debating, it was all about crushing the other argument, but not making them sad, upset or manipulating them etc. The more someone cares about you the more you'd be able to hurt them too, so peace love and happiness FTW.

With respect, being a font of peace love and happiness draws people to you because they can count on those positive influences. However, the day you can't put it out is the same day they will learn to hate you. Better to eye of the storm it.

It means that your weapon of choice is a deeply destructive one. Not only for them, but you. It is possible to shake the sense of self of almost anyone or completely destroy a person who is less resiliant with a few carefully chosen words. Far more enduring damage than the average person in a punch up is likely to do. Its a nasty talent that brings with it a false sense of power and invulnerability, and if you let it, an enjoyment of what it can do to people.

The ability to affect peoples emotions through your words has the potential to sooth, heal and inspire. Its no different to any other gift. Find the duality in it and follow that.
