Realization as a Woman was created by
This video has been going around facebook lately. I was wondering thoughts about it.
I know that I judge based on looks to an extent and I also know it's not a good thing to do..
This made me think about things, not just from a woman's perspective, but from a human perspective.

I'm not so sure about how much of it is "brainwash", but I do believe some extent of it is human nature. I think that people are attracted to looks as a means of primitively determining the physical (and even mental) health and even compatibility of that individual. However, I do believe that many aspects of human society tend to cling to this primitive means in things such as public media, as its likely the most (if not one of the most) universally familiar aspect of attraction, and therefore, the most widest avenue of attracting attention to whatever the media is expressing about a product, show, movie, etc. I'm not sure if this instinct will always be there, but I do believe that we have been evolving further beyond the concern of looks through human existence and should continue to do so.

I hated how he presumed people would stare and point and whisper if he looked like he was in drag or say "freek"
Rest was interesting.

Beauty is all another part of materialism with regards to social status being down to your affluence and the fallacious thought that the more good stuff you have the happier you are...

We, quite expectantly, like things that look nice... Therefore if we have the nicest looking things we are better off than someone who does not. Quite shallow really... but that is what some people think.

But clearly the entire idea is ultimately flawed because happiness that is down to your owning possessions does not make you feel fulfilled therefore beauty, as a 'possession', is included...

Sadly for myself I still find that I am piqued by looks but I certainly stay for the personality...

It's true and important, but I don't like how we seemed to leave it so open that he could be interpreted as laying blame on something external for the brainwashing, such as society, media etc. It's probably in large part a natural tendency from biology to prefer things which indicate to our brain if someone is compatible, useful and fun to be around. Which are the same reasons beauty has such a foothold in material capitalism. The individual does not have to be ignorant of their environment and the forces which arise and thrive in it to operate within it, so Dustin is partly to blame for his self confessed brainwashing IMO.

It's one of the things I am working on, discarding any concept of beauty or ugly but instead it seems to make beauty more beautiful and ugly less ugly.... instead of everything equal it seems to raise the overall set. Hence why I'm still working on it!!!

No matter how evolved, humans are still animals...we have certain instincts etc that despite our best efforts still control some aspect of our behavior...physical attraction is one of them...all animals do what has come to be called "peacocking"...we display our best attributes in order to attract a potential mate(for some it's wealth, others health)...the standards vary from culture to culture but exist none the less...of course humans are the only species striving for more...
