People shouldn't have to be worried about going to jail and being beaten and violated if they post something online. You could argue that we should monitor our speech in order to not offend anyone (which is a fairly good idea), but we shouldn't have to fear "Big Brothers" creepy choke hold if we say something stupid. I hope this kid sues and I hope he wins.
Texas law enforcement was grossly out of line and should be held accountable. Then again, a cop can drive drunk and keep his job. A truck driver would lose his livelihood. And a kid who posts something sarcastic will be imprisoned, while our president cam illegally use weapons of war on his own people.

The comment, which Jack insists was "sarcastic," made its way to the eyeballs of an unidentified Canadian citizen who called up the Canadian Crime Stoppers Association — a nonprofit which promises cash money (up to $2,000) for tips that lead to arrests.

I have to disagree there Br. John,
I considered the context of his words when making my post, but still think he was ignorant to the reality that the people who had the authority to mess up his life wouldnt care about the "lol jk".
Like I said, when you post online, you are excersising your freedom of speech, but forfeting your right to privacy. If people dont see and understand that simple fact, they eventually will after making a mistake like this individual has.

Read the law he's being charged under (posted previously in this thread). I'm saying there's nothing that shows he intended to cause fear in anyone and plenty of evidence he did not have intent. I mean nobody as in the police, prosecutor, grand jury and judge.

Ah, that would make more sense then.
I did also read the legislation he was charged under, and I agree that while it would have been appropriate to investigate the incident, that they took it too far by imprisioning him.
