I remember complaints that all we talked about was re-legalizing marijuana or whatever. Sometimes things just come in spates.

Funny, I've hardly ever seen weed discussed. Then again, I come and go.
Br. John, I saw you on Youtube, I thought you were doing pretty alright in that interview. You certainly projected a warm, wise sort of image. You've been doing this since '77 and I had no idea. I thought I was a vet for doing it since '99...

I think of it this way: In a physical church we would most likely have groups that met at different times throughout the week (study groups, support groups, social groups, meditation, yoga, etc.). Online, we only have the forum that is open for everyone. So instead of being closed off where only the people in the groups are part of discussions, everyone sees them. These are conversations that happen in physical churches, but the whole church doesn't have access to them in the same way they do here.
The good thing about the forum is that if you don't like a topic you can go somewhere else without having to walk away from someone the way you would in a physical church. Also, the way it is broken down is nice. So if I want to talk about something important to me, I go to General Discussions. If I want to talk religion, I go to one of the religious forums. If I just want to have a good laugh, I go to humor. It makes it easier to filter conversations you don't feel like being part of.
Finally, if it's important to people it will get talked about. The fact that you see so many topics about LGBT people must mean that those are conversations that are important to people here. I don't see a whole lot of people just agreeing with each other on those posts. I see a lot of back and forth between different views.
If you feel like too many people are talking about LGBT issues, perhaps you just aren't checking out the right topics for yourself or talking to people who are interested in the things you are interested in.

Because it’s a major sociological event that will have profound everlasting consequences on the course of man kind.
I can barley understand why anyone would even make this post. Sure maybe it’s not that interesting to you ,but surely you can understand that some people are going to find things interesting that you don’t especially something that will have a huge effect on the world considering about 10% of people are gay.
One day your grand children will be like “What was it like to live in a world were gays were treated differently,” and you’re going to be like “Well everyone kept posting about it.”

I think it's great to be able to discuss trans issues with people who are trans. It's a rare opportunity for me. I mean closet-gay people are a dime-a-dozen(I live in a very republican area) but trans people just aren't out there to be found. It would be neat to see a bi thread as well and maybe even a queer or some of the others I'm not familiar with.
