I agree. I was kinda thrown by this question because I don't have a traditional job and my non-traditional job is integrated with my life and the principles of jediism. So for me the only effect is reassurance.Jackofalltrades wrote: well, from what I can gather, most people here consider themselves "Jedi" and their work should be their mission. So "Jediism" should not affect their work at all, because a Jedi must follow the maxim: Do not elevate the self above the mission.

Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet
Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.
With Jediism. No one is coming to save you. You have to get off your ass and do it yourself - Me

I have been a day laborer and a radio producer. I'm currently in my last year of high school, so right now I'd say my "work" is being a student. Soon I'll (hopefully) be starting a job as a pizza delivery boy. Whoop whoop! :woohoo:

I'm a.....uhm....nighttime cashier at a convenient store near a bad neighborhood...but I used to be a carpenter before the market collapsed, and I'm a certified C.A.D. drafter (computer aided design)...I've also worked in a warehouse for compUSA, had various other construction related jobs and served in the navy...

RyuJin wrote: I too do customer service type work....and it (jediism) helps keep the other me in check...it prevents me from jumping over the counter and throttling the annoying, rude, idiotic, etc customers....there are days where i'd like nothing more than to turn certain customers into quivering puddles of goo
Same here. I'm a customer service manager. People have this tendency to believe the crap that "the customer is always right." They don't care if you get fired for going against company policy. They don't care if you aren't the one responsible for a lot of the decisions and that you're simply the messenger and policy enforcer (hehe, I like that title...think i'll adopt it, lol). They will come at you kicking and screaming. I've learned how to keep myself calm at all times. When I feel my muscles starting to tense up and my heart rate beginning to speed up, I gather the force and allow it to calm me back down, and I respond to the customers in a low, soft, warm tone (which, oddly enough, just pisses them off even more, lol).
I just have to remember that as a Jedi, it is my job to bring peace and not escalate war. I've also become VERY protective of my cashiers. If I so much as hear a slightly threatening tone going from a customer to a cashier, I shoot on over like a daddy protecting his little girl. I am a Jedi, I am a holder of peace and a protector.
And then of course there are associates who are just as bad. I have to remember that instead of just saying "shut up and go home" I need to pull them to side and give them a stern talking to. Sometimes, they get big headed or they forget that the customer is the reason they're getting paid. So I have to deal with both customers AND associates on a daily bases. Gotta love management

Well, I can't tell you EXACTLY what I do, but it involves wearing a cape while running around in the cover of darkness with fancy gadgets. And every once in a while, I do something crazy...like this:
Oh what the hell, might as well just come out and say it...

My job affects my practicing and forum use somewhat negatively at times. Erratic hours, unusual workplaces, the general lack of ettiquette... there are very bad words which become commonly used on the job which would get me in a great deal of trouble here. ^^
It doesn't affect anything too much, which I'm grateful for.
