Greetings everybody!

Lately I've been thinking a lot about the things considered 'world problems'. These are, of course, problems affecting the greater part of the world.
As an aspiring jedi, I would like to know how you think about things like: global warming, unequality in the world, the refugee crisis,... I suppose we, as jedi, should want to use our capabilities to the greater benifit of the world, but in order to do this, we need concrete plans and opinions.
I don't know if there's already a thread like this (although I've been hanging out on this forum for quite some time now), so please feel free to put your wisdom here.

I feel that if we somehow sucked greed out of the world, it would solve most of our problems, you know? Including the climate change issues, people hurting other people, etc.

But how do you teach people to WANT to share with each other, outside of brainwashing them or something?

Wanting to save the world is a noble act, but a futile one at the same time. All systems work by dehumanizing a person and turning him or her into another "cog in the wheel". Some awesome ideas have popped up around the world throughout time, but when the idea is not applied individually (with freedom) and is instead apply as a system, it is by definition an imposition, as not everyone who is a part of the system will agree with the idea. This is my take on why socialism and communism ultimately fail, despite the obvious abuses inherent in capitalism.

I believe the only way to save the world is by trying to make a difference at the personal level: helping a friend, being a good example, volunteering.

And then hoping they will pay it forward.

I agree with Manu. You can't change the world, you can only make the area around you a little better and hopefully your acts will inspire others and the trend continues. Worrying about fixing the world will draw you into fear and hopelessness, but not doing anything is just as harmful.

One novel approach is to try and make information accessible for free around the globe eventually. Stuff like Google's Project Loon;
https://www.google.com/loon/
A lot of the developed worlds tech waste is still operational, so accessibility to hardware to access a free internet service could make it possible maybe. Knowledge is power but if we're talking about improving humanity then that means either empowering it or restricting it. The planet would probably be better off if humans were not here, but moving offworld is not viable or attractive yet, and ending humanity itself is a bit nihilistic or something

But wealth inequality might better be approached in terms of reducing the lowest levels of poverty rather then reducing the highest levels of wealth IMO. I don't think the problem is that some people are obscenely rich, but rather that any are obscenely poor, and that plus inadequate security would be the root of the refuge crisis probably. Human pollution will need technological solutions IMO, due to population growth increasing. The only way one person is going to solve those things is through technology, but in reality I think each person working towards improvements is making an invaluable contribution, every little thing add's up.

Hello, awesome topic!

I think it goes without saying that a lot of world issues are complex and are the result of multiple, competing factors. Many problems will likely take much thought, commitment, and time to heal.

That being said, I also think that there is an unfortunate perception in the power that money holds (particularly in capitalist societies), which is possibly the biggest barrier to change. Ideally, the extremely rich top 1% of people would realize that they could live more modestly so that others could live decent lives. But to be fair, there are political boundaries that must be overcome as well.

I think the very first step would be a global understanding of the unity of humans, that we are all sharing this planet together, despite all the things that make us different as well as a sense of community rather than the "dog eat dog" mantra that gets pushed.

Just my two cents :)

Hello!

I think human born free and "no bad" but is the society who corrupts him ( Rosseau ), but not at all. I think society has taken a course about individuality and personal enjoyment above all. At this point , it is normal young people and who is unborn arrive to a situation worse than now. We need to change them and give values for next generations more than feed the ego.

I think that this is one of the base that induced this world situation.

Sorry for my bad english.
