BPAs - all men should read
Lets start with what everybody know, just about all plastic is made with Bisphenol A (BPA) and it is a carcinogenic, everyone knows that. What everyone does not know is that when you put something in plastic whether it be water or food or whatever it gets contaminated with BPA and when you ingest it that then absorbs into your blood stream. recently a scientist replaced all his glass beakers with plastic one and found that his blood samples were not getting the same results anymore and he found out that is was due to the BPA in the plastic and after some test he found out that BPA has the same effect as if you were taking estrogen pills. for a man that means low thyroid , increased weight, depression, and low sperm count.
So if you have to drink out of a plastic bottle make sure its BPA free like the plastic called triton or just use glass bottles they are just as good.

Glass bottles, unfortunately, aren't a solution to the problem: a recent test of bottled water conducted by a Swiss consumer magazine yielded worrysome results: out of 15 mineral waters tested, 13 were BPA contaminated. 3 of them were in glass bottles. The problem with glass bottles is that they still have plastic lids. Also, some of the BPA contamination was actually caused by the bottling process rather than the bottles themselves. Drinking tap water isn't any better as most modern houses have plastic water pipes and regulation for these is minimal. At this point, there is simply no way around BPAKenMarcotte wrote: Hello fellow Jedi,

You make an extremely valid point and it is very worrisome. I know they make Triton pipes which are BPA free its just a matter of the city using something that would cost extra money and that will never happen.

Yeah, it's pretty sad - even if they did a 180 and started replacing the old pipes right now, it would probably take decades. And that's only the community infrastructure - the individual houses are beyond a solution. We built our house 5 years ago. Back then, I had no idea about BPA and other problems coming from cheap / badly conceived water pipes. I know we have plastic pipes. Even if they were BPA contaminated, I couldn't afford getting them replaced.

i think your solution lies in something like the warka water tower
they use condensation to collect upwards of thirty gallons of water daily
you would need to tailor the concept to your own specifics but it looks like its something that anyone can do if they spend a little time working it out

I have the strong feeling that it would be insanely hard to get planning permission for something like that and if I could, I'd probably make the national headlines

Ratcliffe wrote: Absolutely right and the other concern is the primary source of BPA is not plastic bottle, which it is relatively hard to get BPA out of but is instead cash register recites. they are coated in BPA. If you happen to sanitize your hands after checking out, which I sadly do, when you touch the recite you get a huge dose of BPA.
Just read up on that - would have never thought of that one. I even have those receipts to my kids if they asked for it
