The ability to go into space would only further the problem. ? i dont think so we can send water back here as well, when the sun gets so big, we start losing water to space.

True the water isn't going anywhere but we aren't talking about water in general we're talking about drinking water. As in water that is safe to drink. Also space furthers the problem because all that does is give us more space to expand. It doesn't give us more resources.

I'll try to answer both points with this simple explanation.

According to your graphs Wescli, we were at 6 billion in 1999. So it only took us 12 years to get another billion people. (2011 at 7 billion) Lets say 7 billion people is the max number any planet could sustain with out problems. Lets also say we could access any number of planets we want. Using the rate of doubling it would only take 84 years before we get to 14 billion, 42 years before we get to 24 billion, 21 years before we got 48 billion, 10.5 years at 96 billion, 5.25 years at 192 billion. Why is this a big deal? Because it would only take us 163 years to fill up 27 planets! if you were born in 2011 Earth two would be overpopulated by your 84th birth day. :pinch:

It took us about 3 million years to fill this planet.



Wescli pointed out that there are other factors to take into account. This is true but most of those factors deal with the total number not the cause. For example we've lived through countless wars, many diseases, and disasters. Yet here we are at 7 billion strong. Obviously it didn't do very much to slow us down.

All the graphs show an exponential growth and that the population will level off. None of them explain why.

The only explanation as to why is that we wont be able to support the population. This is true but because our water will run out first. If it doesn't by some miracle than we'll run out of space to farm food next.

If you want to solve this issue than stop trying to control the effect and just fix the cause!
