I very specifically only drive stick shift cars because it limits the number of people who can drive them, and because it's way more fun to drive. B)

amen to that...i converted mine from aod to a t5z out of a '93 cobra R....so much faster now and by default so much more fun

British cars. I was just thinking this morning actually how I've only ever liked British cars in Bond movies and on Top Gear (UK version). Otherwise the only times I see them they look too box-y. I like British motorcycles though. Big Triumph fan. :cheer:

Also, Ryujin, your car looks awesome! It's one machine gun short of being the car from Death Race.

I may have just fully derailed the conversation. Sorry.

I can say that at least in my area those cars wouldn't be broken into unless they: 1) where parked somewhere bad, or 2) had stuff in them worth stealing, or 3) the owner had pissed someone off and they knew it was their car. That's just in my area though. There are plenty of places in all countries that I'm sure any car is likely to get broken into for seemingly no reason. Maybe it happens more in the UK? I haven't looked into the stats on that yet.

i dont look at the world in terms of blame

blame is reactive and implies value or worth i.e. TO DESERVE - in relative proportion to choices and events experienced

nobody DESERVES anything - or at least there is a very REAL -whether we like it or not - REAL element in life where "good" people have bad experiences and where bad people have "good expriences"

responsibility is pro active
blame is RE active

responsibility looks backwards only to learn how to better look forward
blame looks backwards to make people into heroes and villians and victims and monsters

im not concerned with heros and monsters
im concerned with being empowered
responsibilty is empowerng
blame is not

thats all im saying

People are complicated.

Tempted to post pics of cars... resisting temptation, distraction protocol launched...

Here cars are usually broken into to for joyriding or spare parts.

I had a tempting mistress for a few years, and I think it survived its time because I was the only I could get the thing started!! It ran so rich that to start the engine I"d have to be under the hood holding the carb's secondary valves open
The plus side was it threw flames out the exhaust on downshifts.... very nice effect at night when driving through the hills as the flames would light up the surrounding countryside for a moment.
:pinch:
When Ms Adder was young she used to take the distributor rotor out of her car so no-one would nick it.

I guess its about what someone thinks is a reasonable measure of avoidance and that could be scaled up and down for risk factors. While crooks exist at all levels of wealth and crooks can move to any location, some spots are going to be more vulnerable then others. CCTV, good lighting and lots of public traffic helps I guess, versus dark empty places where gangs of kids in hoodies roll around in shopping trolleys with hockey sticks and face masks might not be!!!

lol i had an"89 silvia (i'll have to scan and post pics at some point) that had so much compression that it blew a hole in the exhaust pipe the first time, blew the muffler out the back (which was then run over by a cement mixer) the second time, and blew the whole flowmaster system out the back the third time...afterwards i stopped using u bolts and started welding the exhaust together...i miss that car...and it was a stick shift too...the 4banger in it was bigger than the v6 in my friends camaro...and it was much faster...when i got it to the u.s. i had tons of kids in the a-spec model (240sx) try to keep up with me...my record was 145+mph at an overpass in clearwater fl...i miss that car

derail done

Goken wrote: Brenna, I think he asked about what type of car it was because certain types of cars are more likely to be broken into. For instance, my Mustang is more likely to be broken into than my old Ford Escort because it's a nicer car but is still obviously old enough to be less likely to have tons of newer security features like OnStar and stuff. As such, I'm more careful about where I park it. When my dad drove a Challenger (man was that a sweet car) there were tons of places that he simply wouldn't leave it because it was way too likely to be messed with. His Dodge Dart he's less careful with.

I completely understood why he asked.

My point is, it doesn't matter. If I was driving a vintage triumph or my old beat up Toyota, The responsibility for the action taken is not mine. Taking precautions, yes. Being careful, absolutely. Still not my responsibility if someone makes the decision to break the law and smash their way into my car.

Ruyjin. woah woah WOAH!

Did you just diss my cars? Like seriously? You're going to make fun of Sir clunk-a-lot and the Nana waggon?!

lol. My friends give me a lot of grief about my cars. The Toyota was actually my brothers first car and when he upgraded and I learned to drive I bought it off him. I loved that car. drove it till it rusted away.

And the Mazda.... of all my possessions, that is the one I wish I could take to the states with me. I've never had a days trouble with it and I can fill her up with US$45 and not have to fill up again for a month. And shes a zippy little thing. Like a bat out of hell in traffic! Not to mention retains value, I was recently offered almost what I paid for her.

Looks mean nothing to me when it comes to cars :)

Except that triumph spitfire though.... but honestly, my grand father collected them and they were more trouble than they are worth.

my first legal car was a 1987 fiero se(again a stick shift) with a superchip installed...the first car i ever drove (i was 8) was a 1981 datsun b210(also a stick shift) and we would wait until after it rained to go drifting (where we lived only had limerock roads)

Lol.

I have driven worse. I used to own a Mitsubishi. little rally car. Turns out that model has a fault which over heats the engine to the point where it sets itself on fire, leaving you standing outside the car with the keys in your hand.... and the engine running by itself like a demonically possessed piece of crap.

Still, there are worse ways to spend a Monday morning than in the presence of hot firemen who've come to save you :D
