    • Balance? (Last post by Mkone)
    • One word... Equalibrium. Great for parties when people don't want see an idiot. I'd heard many paths - being light, dark and grey. Everyone is tested. Choices made are the natural stepping stones, of reality or individual. Power of will.
    • Reaction to this (Last post by MikeBudo)
    • Greetings Each I took is from a seminar I attended recently. As it happens most of the people there all jumped on the obvious error of 4x4 =15. We are quick to notice errors and quicker to point them out especially n this case as even with my limited intellect I should have got 100% . The point of the exercise for a Jedi perspective is that first we should congratulate on getting 5 out of 6 right and perhaps ask the question how did you arrive at 4x4 being 15. It may have been a simple error which can be corrected immediately. One the other hand the person may simply just not know. This can apply to anything. We make mistakes all the time it is just part of being human. Knowledge tells us of the error. Wisdom allows us to correct it without teasing or causing embarrassment. Focus lets us keep that person on the right path. Yours n Budo Mike
    • Trans (Last post by sidvkili)
    • I know people who have transgender and gone through the procedure, I encouraged them to do it but I disagree that insurance companies should be responsible any trans I met who had a problem with work or family or whatever I was called for, sorted out those problems first, if it was financial or whatever, they waited til they reached financial stability before transitioning, and I commend those I know for doing that. So I have to agree with the majority of what I've seen.
    • The mentality of "fighting" for peace (Last post by RyuJin)
    • As the old paradox goes: to have peace, you MUST be prepared for war. As to assassination...if killing one will save more lives than sparing that one....well someone has to do it... No morally/ethically good person deserves to die...the problem lies in ones definition of what is moral/ethical... Soldiers know that they may die in combat, they agree to take on that risk when they take their oath...anyone joining the military has to be prepared to accept that fact, otherwise they shouldn't join....they must also understand that they may have to take life...to lessen the burden of morality there are very strict rules of engagement that are supposed to be followed, sadly these rules frequently get bent/broken...some simply cannot handle the psychological ramifications of taking life and their sense of morality begins twisting down a dark path...
    • Jedi Council? (Last post by Alexandre Orion)
    • When I had been here for a two or three months, I was wondering about inter-community behaviour. It seemed that there were a lot of people from here doing things in other groups (pardon me please, for I still find something distasteful about calling them "sites") ; people from other groups here and several from here talking about other Jedi communities in which they were taking part. I also had looked over a few of the others, without any particular inspired interest. Then again, it took me a while to join our Temple as well. Anyway -- I wondered if it were not perhaps commonplace to roam around the Jedi groups. Perhaps this was how intra-faith cooperation worked .... I wouldn't know, I'm not an internaute to that degree. So, I asked Br. John. He just told me that it wasn't particularly encouraged, but not taboo either. But that answered my question. Since that day, I haven't gone anywhere else. We have a Temple and it is home. When others come here to visit, I'm friendly, yet get a little steamed when one tries to impose on us something from elsewhere - proposing is fine, insisting is not. Our Temple is well organised ; we have guidelines, yet quite a lot of liberty also ...
    • Hero's Journey comically explained (Last post by Hadi Apollos)
    • For those who find the explanation of the Hero's Journey to be boring, let Mario and Fafa from Glove and Boots, along with Fafa's totally-legit-and-not-involved-with-the-Mafia-at-all cousin Johnny T, take a shot at it :P
    • Oh Ewan McGregor... (Last post by Hadi Apollos)
    • I'm not even gay and my undies hit the floor :P And no, that's not a look-alike. That's him goofing around on set. Looks like it was the scene where they were following Duku (the carrier, Padme in her white clothing off to the side..........I really need a life, lol).
    • Our Myths (Last post by Hoxxie)
    • Not a myth per se but I have been reading through some of Aesop's Fables and this one appeals to me: "Mercury and the Woodman A Woodman was felling a tree on the bank of a river, when his axe, glancing off the trunk, flew out of his hands and fell into the water. As he stood by the water's edge lamenting his loss, Mercury appeared and asked him the reason for his grief. On learning what had happened, out of pity for his distress, Mercury dived into the river and, bringing up a golden axe, asked him if that was the one he had lost. The Woodman replied that it was not, and Mercury then dived a second time, and, bringing up a silver axe, asked if that was his. "No, that is not mine either," said the Woodman. Once more Mercury dived into the river, and brought up the missing axe. The Woodman was overjoyed at recovering his property, and thanked his benefactor warmly; and the latter was so pleased with his honesty that he made him a present of the other two axes. When the Woodman told the story to his companions, one of these was filled with envy of his good fortune and determined to try his luck for himself. So he went and began to fell a tree at the edge of the river, and presently contrived to let his axe drop into the water. Mercury appeared as before, and, on learning that his axe had fallen in, he dived and brought up a golden axe, as he had done on the previous occasion. Without waiting to be asked whether it was his or not, the fellow cried, "That's mine, that's mine," and stretched out his hand eagerly for the prize: but Mercury was so disgusted at his dishonesty that he not only declined to give him the golden axe, but also refused to recover for him the one he had let fall into the stream." I think this can apply to Jediism in a few ways. The first of these is that honesty is important, which follows the Jedi teaching to avoid lies. I also think it (to an extent) relates to being wary of attachments - in this case material possessions - and obsessing over money/expensive items leads to greed and upset, and these greedy actions also remind us to act not for personal profit. Well that's what I think anyway :)
    • The two extremes of life (Last post by Rickie The Grey)
    • Quote: i think the way to middle is through wisdom, and the way to wisdom is by high intelligence. so if you follow the virtue of intelligence, it will inevitably lead to wisdom. Yes it is but not by intelligence alone. I think we need to accept that there are many ways to learn. Wisdom is elusive and a by product of learning not a dileberate goal. It happens when it happens. Can't push a string. Ying Yang? It's just a drawing.
    • The wisdom of children (Last post by Raikoutenshi)
    • I actually just wrote a paper on the topic of the perspectives of children for my English class. I posted it in my journal if anyone is interested. It shares most of my thoughts on this topic. Great video Brenna :)
    • Jedi Sentinel Findings (Last post by Abhaya Budhil)
    • I think in the situation with the lost child, the man who stayed a few steps away did the right thing. There was no way he could be accused of touching the child, so he was protecting himself while also helping the child. In the last video, I agree with RyuJin. People see someone that they perceive to be homeless, so they ignore the person. Not everyone has the resources to help personally, but everyone has the ability to find the nearest phone and call the emergency services to let them know someone is in trouble.
    • Death row inmate goes free (Last post by Abhaya Budhil)
    • I wasn't intending to imply that you said her crime was acceptable. I apologize if my statement came across this way. I was merely suggesting that maybe the people who are just a little rowdy when they are younger tend to commit smaller crimes and often do not serve very long sentences.
