Eye to Eye, by Slaughter

I've heard to that song countless times, last week I finally really listened to it. It's all about equality!

Take that people who say all 80's music is shallow. B)

It's only mostly shallow.

May as well finally post my two cents here. It's short, it's fast, and I wouldn't particularly suggest the bit about drunken bike riding, but it's one of my favorites...

Modest Mouse
"So Much Beauty In Dirt"

Out of breath and out of cash,
find yourself watching M.A.S.H.,
every night on the couch.
Woman says let's take a drive down south,
roll down the windows and open our mouths
taste where we are and play the music loud.
Stop the car, lay on the grass,
the planets spin and we watch space pass.
Walk a direction, see where we get.
I never knew nothin' so there's nothin' to forget.
Get real drunk and ride our bikes.
There's so much beauty it could make you cry.
The rich get money but never what they want.
Find ourselves a new place to haunt.
Climb up the fire escape
do it 'til the ground looks far away.
Go night swimming, leave our clothes on the ground,
when we get busted we just stand there proud.
It's the truth we all been wrong
make it up and let's move on.
Playing cards we all get to act sly
there's so much beauty it could make you cry.

SOUL
(Van Morrison)

Soul is a feeling, feeling deep within
Soul is not the colour of your skin
Soul is the essence, essence from within
It is where everything begins

Soul is what you've been through
What's true for you
Where you going to
What you're gonna do

Soul is your station for the folk of your nation
Something that you wear with pride
Soul can be your vision or something that is hidden
It's not something that you gotta hide

Soul is what you've been through
What's true for you
Where you going to
What you're gonna do

Soul can be your station for the folk of your nation
Something that you wear with pride
Soul can be your vision it can be your religion
Something that you just can't hide

Soul is a feeling, feeling deep within
Soul is not the colour of your skin
Soul is the essence, essence from within
Soul is where everything begins

i remember when
i remember i remember when i lost my mind
there was something so pleasant about that place;
even your emotions have an echo
in so much space

and when youre out there
without care
yeah i was out of touch
but it wasnt because i didnt know enough
i just knew too much

does that make me crazy?
does that make me crazy?

probably

and i hope that you are having the time of your life
but think twice
thats my only advice

come on now, who do you
who do you-who do you-who do you think you are?
HA HA HA bless your soul;
you really think youre in control

well i think youre crazy
i think youre crazy
i think youre crazy

just like me

my heroes had the heart to lose their lives out on a limb
and all i remember is thinking; i want to be like them
ever since i was little
ever since i was little it looked like fun
and its no coincidence ive come
and i can die when im done

maybe im crazy
maybe youre crazy
maybe we're crazy

probably

crazy

if you think that a kiss is all in the lips
c'mon you got it all wrong man
and if you think that our dance was all in the hips
oh well, then do the twist
if you think that holding hands is all in the fingers
grab a hold of the soul where the memory lingers and
make sure to never do it with a singer cause he'll tell everybody in the world
what he was thinking bout the girl

yeah what hes thinking bout the girl, oh

a lot of people get confused and they bruise
real easy when it comes to love
they start putting on their shoes and walking out
and singing "boy i think ive had enough"

just because she makes a big rumpus
she dont mean to be mean or hurt you on purpose
boy
take a tip and do yourself a service
take the mountain
turn it into a mole

just by playing a different role
yeah by playing a different role, oh

the boat yea you know shes rockin it
and the truth well you know theres no stopping it

so what, somebody left you in a rut
and wants to be the one whos in control
and the feeling that your under
can really make you wonder
how the hell can she be so cold?

so now youre mad, denying the truth
and its hidden in the wisdom in the back of your tooth

ya need to spit it out in the telephone booth while you call everyone you know and ask em

where do ya think she goes?
oh yea where d'ya suppose that she goes? oh

and the truth - well you know theres no stopping it
the boat - well you know that shes still rockin it

you recognise that youre back in the back and its colder when she rocks the boat
but its the cause
written on the cardinal laws
bout the proper place for her to hang her coat

so to you the truth is still hidden
and the soul plays the role of a lost little kitten
but
you should know that the talkers werent kidding
shes been singing it all along
but you were hearing a different song
yea you were hearing a different song
but you were hearing a different song

they say that we aint got the style
we aint got the class
we aint got the tunes thats gonna put us on the map
and im a phony in disguise trying to make the radio
im an anti social anarchist and i sound just like so and so

they say im just a stupid kid another crazy radical
that rock and roll is dead and that i probbly should have stayed in school
another generation X who somehow slipped up through the cracks and oh theyd love to see me fall but im already on my back, so it goes in one ear and right out the other
people talkig $#!¥ but you know i never bother

in one ear
and right out the other
people talkin $h!¥
they can kiss the back of my hand!

now i know im not a saint ive been a sinner all my life
and i aint tryinna hide my flaws i put em right up in the light
they want to criticize scrutinize and cast another stone
burn me at the stake and sit and watch it from their throne
they say the devil is my pal and i do a lot of drugs and the crowd will only like me if theyre really F♥♡!&£G drunk
they think they know my thoughts but they dont know the least if they listened to the words they hear the message thats beneath but it goes in one ear
and right out the other
people talkin $#!¥ even though they never bother

in one ear
and right out the other
people talkin $#!¥
they can kiss the back of my hand!

you hear that?
you hear whats coming?
oh you better run for the hills cos we're coming to YOUR town AND WE'RE GONNA BURN THAT M@¥#€$4&3% DOWN

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

heres the moral of the story
we dont do it for the glory
we dont do it for the money
we dont do it for the fame
so to the critics who despise us go ahead and criticise us
its your tyranny that drives us adds more fire to the flame
and it goes in one ear and right out the other
people talking $#!¥ but you know it doesnt bother
it goes in one ear and right the other and you know i play my music cause i really f0€£!₩& love it!
in one ear and right out the other
people talkin $#!¥
you can kiss the back of my hand!

no i sure dont have a plan
dont care to understand
but there is a moment, and its there that pain wont find

pass me by and pass the buck
i wish you all the best of luck

there is a dream
with a devil of our kind
all kind

follow truth, with your heart
you know, your end is just a start
so bury your worries
leave your doubts and come with me
come with me

feelin left out in the road?
tryin'a shake a heavy load?
sing me a song
dance me a number till youre free

there is no time for your regerets
the time is now to just accept
what youve become, who you are, and what youve spent

what youve spent

follow truth with all your heart
you know your end is just a start
so bury your worries leave your doubts and come with me

come with me

feelin left out in the road
tryin'a shake that heavy load
sing me a song
dance me a number till youre free

sing me your song
dance me a number till youre free

This song was originally written and performed by Pete Seeger in 1966 during the Vietnam War. I chose to post Springsteen's version because it's a little more updated, yet still rings true to the original. Since the end of WWII I can't say that I understand any of the conflicts the US has entered that justified sending our children off to die. But, that's just me. I hope you get something out of this song. (climbing down off my soapbox)

BRING 'EM HOME

If you love this land of the free
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Bring them back from overseas
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

It will make the politicians sad, I know
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
They wanna tangle with their foe
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

They wanna test their grand theories
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
With the blood of you and me
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

Now we'll give no more brave young lives
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
For the gleam in someone's eyes
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

The men will cheer and the boys will shout
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Yeah and we will all turn out
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

The church bells will ring with joy
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
To welcome our darlin' girls and boys
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

We will lift their voice and sound
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home
Yeah, when Johnny comes marching home
Bring 'em home, bring 'em home

Well, it's a bit creepy music, but it's about stopping bullying and standing up for others and ourselves. Even at the end of the official music video there is statistics and a request to help others in situations like this.

Blood on the dance floor - Rise and Shine

Rain Rain won't go away
Cloud on my head every single day
This pain pain goes right inside
Breaking me down till' I just cry

Little Bully wants to play
Hits me every single day
Pain, pain go right inside
Guess I'll just have to let it slide

Drain drain all my life
Why can't I just stop this strife
Rain rain, won't go away
Cloud on my head every single day

Beat on another kid
But not on me
Rain rain won't go away
Cloud on my head every single day

These games games that you play
Eventually I'll get up and say
No, no not this time
I'm taking back what is mine

[The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.:]
"With this faith
We will be able to transform the jangling discords
Of our nation into a beautiful symphony
Of brotherhood.
With this faith
We will be able to work together,
To pray together,
To struggle together,
To go to jail together,
To stand up for freedom together,
Knowing that we will be able
To sing with new meaning."

Stand up
And take what's mine
Insecurities
Is what you're trying to hide
I don't care
For the things that you say
I know that you're just one step away
From breaking down
Pick yourself up off the ground
I know that you are better than this

Open your eyes
Now is the time
To rise up
With darkness we'll still shine
Idolized and Despised
Wrong or right
We'll make it through to the other side

~ may the Force guide us ~
the root source of suffering is an ignorance of ourselves

i remember it all very well lookin back
it was the summer i turned eighteen
we lived in a run down worn out shack
on the outskirts of new orleans

we didnt have money for food or rent
to say the least we were hard pressed
then momma spent every last penny we had
to buy me a dancin dress

momma washed and combed and curled my hair and then she painted my eyes and lips
i stepped into a satin dancin dress that had a split on the side straight up to my hips

it was red velvet trim and it fit me good

standin back from the lookin glass was a woman where a half grown kid had stood

and momma said heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down

momma dabbled a bit of perfume on my neck and she kissed my cheek
then i saw tears well up in her troubled eyes as she started to speak

she looked at our pitiful shack then she looked at me and took a ragged breath
she said your pa's run off and im real sick and the baby's gonna starve to death

she handed me a heart shaped locket that said "to thine own self be true"
i shivered as i watched a roach crawl across the toe of my high heeled shoe

it sounded like somebody else was talkin when i asked momma what do i do?
she said you be nice to the gentlemen Fancy
and theyll be nice to you

she said heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down
heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down

oh lord forgive me for what i do

but if you want out well its up to you
so dont let me down now your mommas gonna move you uptown

well that was the last time i saw my ma
the night i left that rickety shack

the welfare people came and took the baby, momma died and i aint been back

but the wheels of fate had started to turn and for me there was no way out
and it wasnt very long till i knew exactly what my momma'd been talkin about

i knew what i had to do but i made myself this solemn vow
that i was gonna be a real lady someday though i didnt know when or how

and i couldnt see spending the rest of my life with my head hung down in shame
well i might have been born just plain white trash but Fancy was my name

heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down
well heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down

wasnt long after that a bemevolent man took me off the street
and one week later i was pourin his tea in a five room hotel suite

i charmed a king and a congressman and an occasional aristocrat
and i got me a georgia mansion and an elegant new york town house flat

i aint done bad

now in this world theres a lot of self righteous hypocrites who wanna call me bad
and criticize momma for turnin me out now matter how little we had

and though i aint had to worry bout nothin for nigh on fifteen years
i still hear the desperation in my poor mommas voice ringin in my ears

heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down
well heres your one chance Fancy dont let me down

lord forgive me for what i do

but if you want out well its up to you so dont let me down now youre mommans gonna move you uptown
