Its good for the prequel fans, I suppose... But as lightsabers do in that trilogy, too, these lack individuality and therefore beauty. Besides, they are not nearly as bright as conventional LED sabers, but eh, maybe I'm the wrong to judge...

They don't look as bright as the Luxeon LED ones I've seen.

interesting but as Gisteron said it lacks the unigueness I think is needed with something like a lightsaber

I was wondering if wicked still had those...they make them by re-using the blue laser from home theaters...

Luxeon sabers are brighter in appearance but I think it's because most have a collector or magnifyer between the led and blade while the lazer does not...of course the luxeons can't cause burn or similar injuries if the blade falls out

I'd get one just on principal!!!! (and I don't like the concept of light sabers)

Hm... I am skeptical about this claim that they can be real lasers that cut, AND arc back on themselves like a proper lightsaber... all while apparently being visible... forgive me for suspecting false advertising.

It's an actual laser, and if you pay attention, it is encased like the LED sabers. WL never claimed it would CUT anything, but it could damage your retinas, hence the reason for the two stunt men wearing sunglasses.

Didn't they show something about matches? Hm...

I don't quite get why lasers, then, if they can't cut. We might as well go for those good and durable LEDs that don't require us to wear shades.

A laser is not defined as something that could cut through materials. LED sabers (btw regardless wether built in is a Luxeon, a Cree, a LEDEngin, a Seoul or any high-power LED; and yes, they have lenses to direct the light into the blade; UltraSabers btw have no lenses but reflectors glued on the emitter) also do not cut through materials at all and still they are, with proper collection considered class 2 lasers. Even 3 Watt emitters as we find in so many lightsabers can blind people and/or cause physical damage on the eyes, and we shall not forget that there are sabers produced with 10 Watt emitters.
Anyway, other than producing a bright blade, the blades used in LED sabers also diffuse the light into the environment. This is not canon according to the original trilogy, it adds to realism and beauty regardless, and that with not a sincerely higher power consumption.

Curious trivia: According to old information I had (lost the source, unfortunately), there was a lightsaber that in the New York state a court declared as weapon because of its dangerous brightness.

Since I am not familiar with these lightsabers' technology I should step back and not judge it as anything lesser than conventional LED sabers. I do not know how well these fit the needs of the customers or any of the needs of our members or my needs even. Perhaps using electronics as these and building them into individual lightsaber hilts can produce quite a great new saber, that, despite not as bright, at least can have the individuality we would expect a saber to show.
Can anyone say anything reliable about these sabers' blade durability?
