I like the idea of the backpack in this video, it has an armor panel and holster in an otherwise normal looking backpack which can be deployed in a few seconds to counter an emerging frontal threat;

Second I wanted to address the issue of Concealed Carry vs Open Carry.
For those that don't know I have a back ground in Law Enforcement. 15 Years in security, Former US Marine Military Police, and prior service with town marshal service. For law enforcement we train to assume that anyone is carrying at all times. However, most citizens do not see it this way. I used to open carry a lot and saw first had the way people respond to seeing someone carrying a firearm that is visible. Even though there were no posted signs i was kicked out of a restaurant for carrying. When I informed them that there were no signs they simply stated that I made the guest feel uncomfortable. So I ask this if you see someone carrying would that not make you more on edge than if you did not know? for me I try to quickly assess the situation whenever I see someone carrying. My first thought is "is this person a police officer?" Most officers carry themselves in a professional manner that is easy to determine (in most cases) if they have had training or just a common Joe. If I can not determine that right off I go on defense and observe trying to commit to memory every detail about the person just in case.
So, I believe the passing of a concealed carry law is for the purpose of easing a possible panic. But, that is just my opinion. BTW, did I mention i want that backpack?

Now I mean I could agree with you that a concealed weapon law can help prevent panic that's for sure, but my problem with it is that now you're going to have people running around with lethal deadly weapons, even if just for self defense, and noone is going to know. That's also not something that is going to deter crime. Open carry is much more of a deterrent, concealed simply gives someone who is getting victimized the opportunity to kill their attacker.
I don't know if I would necessarily come out strongly against concealed weapons, but if given the choice of the two options, I would 100% come out in support of an open carry situation.

In 1960, Robert Menard was a Commander aboard the USS Constellation when he was part of a meeting between United States Navy personnel and their counterparts in the Japanese Defense Forces. Fifteen years had passed since VJ day. Most of those at the meeting were WWII veterans, men who had fought each other to the death at sea were now comrades in battle who could confide in one another. Someone at the table asked a Japanese admiral why, with the Pacific Fleet devastated at Pearl Harbor and the mainland U.S. forces in what Japan had to know was a pathetic state of unreadiness, Japan had not simply invaded the West Coast. Commander Menard would never forget the crafty look on the Japanese commander's face as he frankly answered the question. "You are right", he told the Americans. "We did indeed know much about your preparedness. We knew that probably every second home in your country contained firearms. We knew that your country actually had state championships for private citizens shooting military rifles. We were not fools to set foot in such quicksand."
