Officers threw a flashbang grenade in my son's crib, and left a hole in his chest. It gets worse.

Such a sweeping statement....
Do you generalize everyone, and everything like that?
I'm a janitor for a small government... Not a cop, although TOTJO has cops here...
I know, personally, at least eight cops, and one former cop...
Why one former? Cause he abused his power....
Once he got caught, all sorts of past occurrences came to light, but he was given a "don't do that again" speech and shifted to another department.... Till he messed with the wrong person... A person with more power's family member...
He (the bad cop) is a shining example of how no punishment will only lead to trouble...
But, what did those other cops do? Those other eight guys, and the 10-12 (other shifts) others that I don't know that well?
Should I lump them in?
Your comment is what lumps us in with roleplayers... Not what you said, cause really you said few words... Its the feelings and thoughts and generalization behind it...
There are bad soldiers, bad pill makers, bad everyone... But there are good too....
I used to feel that way as well... Then I took my thoughts further...

Yeah.... mostly because seldom is anything reported on the myriad of positive things they do everyday.
If it bleeds, it leads.
The story is obviously sad, and I sympathize, but of course, it is meant to do exactly that.
Cops have to deal with things on a day to day basis, with types most never will have to, all the time.
Here is an example, and a warning in advance, its strong content.
I think it an extreme act over some drugs, I think that is my only gripe.
Still, it is not uncommon to be inundated with horror and atrocity day in, and day out, and from all over the world(with those sheer numbers, statistically there will be enough to keep the news full of blood and horror)....but thats not the truth of things.
Its just what sells, catches your eye, aggravates your outrage, and fear.
When I was 4, my father held me hostage at knifepoint in a house for three hours while high on heroin, if not other things.
So perhaps I have a different appreciation, if not trust for law enforcement.

I'm sorry to hear that.
When I was four, the police held my father at gunpoint because they confused him with someone else driving the same car who had committed a robbery.
Disregard the fact that he immediately pulled over and cooperated, they still put their guns in his face.
I was raised never to point a gun at someone unless you were ready to shoot, so unless these officers (although I would rather call them something else) didn't receive the same advice, it means they were all too ready to kill my dad.
With police, the policy too often seems to be shoot first and ask questions later.

And I am sorry for you both...
I never had such an event like this...

Have you ask your father about this? Gotten his perspective? Just curious....

They do... And, Kohadre, they would have shot your father had he given them cause... And by cause, that means acted in a way that they deemed aggressive....
Cops are not perfect, I wont, and am not defending these cops, or any cops who do something wrong...
But, they dont all do wrong things...
They didnt know your dad wasnt a killer, or kidnapper, and overwhelming force, seems to have that 'stun' effect that stops bad guys....
Do you think, had it been the bad guy, and not your dad, and they walked up and acted calm and ask questions, that the bad guy (who we {meaning me and the audience reading this} dont know what he was guilty of yet) would have volunteered that he WAS INDEED the culprit, and that he would come along peacefully?
What are the odds of bad guys cooperating? Probably greater odds they wont, than that we would come across a bad cop on a personal level...
You (an individual, not necessarily you Kohadre...
More in a PM... lol...

I can only agree with sadness in my heart. My belief is that while there may be individuals who try to do good within a corrupt and evil system, the system itself is flawed. Law enforcement does not protect the people, but rather the property and power of the government.
